Job description

About the role:

You will be a key member of the engineering design team, working with Engineers, Technicians on a broad range of engineering projects.

Your team forms part of Powys County Council's Engineering Design Services team which employs around 50 enthusiastic and dedicated staff, comprising academically and professionally qualified engineers, technicians, and ecologists.

You will manage and motivate staff and provide your expertise upon a range of structures and highways Civil Engineering projects, and deliver a portfolio of schemes to programme and budget.

Working within the county of Powys you will be surrounded by the natural beauty the county has to offer. You and your team will be committed to ensuring the delivery of sustainable projects which focus upon and enhance the counties biodiversity and natural heritage.

You will have the option to work 'flexibly' in line with the workloads, with the opportunity to work from home, the office or from site.

About you:

You will:

  • Have a degree/HND in civil or structural engineering and/or be an Incorporated Engineer.
  • have proven experience of highway and/or structural engineering design.
  • have a good working knowledge of the relevant; DMRB standards, codes of practice, NEC contracts, as well as H&S and environmental legislation.
  • have good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels.
  • have an ability to manage conflicting priorities and be self-motivated.
  • be a team player and have a desire to develop and mentor your team.

What you will do:

You will work upon a broad range of projects for numerous clients within the authority and beyond.

You will take responsibility for projects; providing designs and technical advice, producing and approving design calculations, contract drawings and documentation and undertake contract management and site supervision when required.

You will have a working knowledge of the NEC4 contact and have a good understanding of construction best practice and site management.

You will act in the role of CDM Principal Designer and be committed to Health & Safety matters upon your projects both at design and construction phases.
