The successful candidate will be part of a county wide psychology team contributing to our innovation and commitment to ongoing service improvement and compassionate care; and ensuring that psychology is at the heart of everything we do., to deliver a range of interventions to families and young people in line with their needs and goals.
Main duties of the job
To offer quality driven assessments, psychological formulations and interventions to young people experiencing a range of mental health problems.
To be an integral part in developing and delivering clinical care pathways. and a senior member of the MDT to offer consultation and develop psychological knowledge across the team. To join the Neurodevelopmental Team by contributing to neurodevelopmental assessments and team discussions.
Supervising and supporting the development of other psychologists in the team, including trainee Clinical Psychologists on placement.
To develop and re-establish the evidence-based group programme delivery in the New Forest team, alongside regular liaison with the 16+ psychological wellbeing services within the local community to support access to appropriate psychological treatment outside of CAMHS where appropriate.

Under the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment Regulations) (TUPE) all substantive Hampshire CAMHS staff who are employed by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT) will transfer to either Southern Health Foundation Trust, or to Surrey and Borders Foundation Trust. The TUPE transfer from Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust effective from 1st February 2024.

The New Forest is one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest in Southern England, covering southwest Hampshire and southeast Wiltshire. A beautiful country walk can be taken in a lunch break, right outside the team base.

The New Forest CAMHs team, based in Ashurst, is close to the train station with excellent railway links to and from Southampton and Dorset so there is plenty of opportunity for adventure.

To be successful at shortlisting
  • Is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC
  • Has experience in risk assessment and risk management
  • Some experience in working with and treatment delivery to children and young people with mental health disorders and/or neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and varied role with children and their families

It would also be advantageous if you are:
  • Experienced in working in CAMHS (Children and Young People's mental health services)
  • Dedicated to developing excellent services

It is desirable that candidates have their own mode of transport as there will be occasional requirements to travel to other bases or areas.
Part-time hours can be considered - Minimum 22.5 hrs per week.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK], including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, approved by the HPC.
  • Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HPC)

Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
  • Experience of working with people with Learning Disabilities and other complex needs within a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of the application of applied psychology in different cultural contexts and experience of working within a multicultural framework.
  • Knowledge of guidance and legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).
