Job description

An exciting opportunity to join a developing portfolio; from promoting an Art gallery to launching a new garden you will be responsible for attracting visitors to three contrasting sites that form a key part of the York visitor offer.

York is a vibrant city and we are surrounded with beautiful gardens galleries and houses to visit. The successful candidate will ideally have knowledge of the local market and experience in marketing visitor attractions and an art gallery. Your tone of voice is the first experience that most of our visitors have when visiting us so we are looking for a superb communicator to attract new audiences and encourage repeat visits. A creative individual who can juggle conflicting priorities, meet deadlines and enjoy working in a busy office.

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week. You'll work five days out of seven with a requirement to work one weekend a month as well as some bank and school holidays and the very occasional evening event. This role supports the operation through working as a Duty Manager, five days per month

Salary: £27,000pa

Contract: Fixed term until January 2025

Interviews: 5th March, we would prefer to conduct face to face interviews, however we can accommodate virtual interviews for those who would like to apply but live outside of the area and would relocate for this role.

What it's like to work here

No day is the same at the busy York portfolio. Three pay for entry sites, attracting over 180,000 visitors per year; Treasurer's House, Beningbrough and Goddards offer a diverse range of experiences for our visitors. Goddards is an Arts and Crafts Garden, Treasurer's House packages centuries of history into engaging guided tours as well as being a popular destination for Christmas. Beningbrough recently opened the Reddihough Galleries in the Baroque hall with a changing annual exhibition and the garden is undergoing a renaissance with the help of Andy Sturgeon the internationally acclaimed garden designer. With a changing programme of family activities, talks and trails York is an exciting place to be.

What you'll be doing

Reporting directly to the General Manager you will be based mainly at Beningbrough Hall, as well as frequent days working at the other sites in York. In a highly competitive market you will be responsible for promoting the National Trust in York through maintaining a vibrant and engaging website to encourage visits. Via social media platforms you will creatively promote the changing programme of activities and the exhibition to encourage first time and repeat visits. You will work closely with various tourism organisations as well as National Trust regional consultants.

This role is a senior leader in the portfolio and you will be part of the Property Leadership Team, steering the strategic direction and delivering the business plan. 

Who we're looking for

To deliver this role successfully, you will need; 

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, linked to the role description above 
  • Strong interpersonal skills: good relationship building and networking abilities to work with external partners and stakeholders 
  • Ability to develop creative and engaging communication media 
  • Good understanding of how to build an engaging webpage 
  • Experience in social media management: to build, manage and evaluate social media presence, campaigns and metrics 
  • Strong attention to detail: to ensure accuracy of information and consistency across all communication materials 
  • Flexibility, meaning a willingness to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure.
