Job description

About the role: We are looking for a passionate and motivated Senior Computational Biologist to work collaboratively with students and postdocs to address critical questions of tumour – microenvironment interactions. You will contribute to the success of our data driven multi-omics analysis of pancreatic cancer, and how the local niche evolves during tumour development and in response to therapy. To this end we are interrogating model systems and human patient samples by a combination of exploratory approaches, including single cell RNA expression, Mass Cytometry, multiplexed immunofluorescence, mass spectrometry and genomics (Tape et al Cell 2016, Hutton et al Cancer Cell 2021, Below et al Nat Materials 2022). As a CRUK core funded Senior Computational Biologist within the Systems Oncology group you will be a visible presence providing valuable contributions in a collaborative manner on high priority projects to implement software tools, undertake bespoke data analysis and data integration. This may also involve local collaboration with members of the computational support team, scientific computing and bioinformaticians in other groups at the institute. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an energetic and collaborative team and explore data analytics and integration at the intersect of wet lab biologists and computation. About you: You will have a degree in Computer Science or Bioinformatics or related area, OR a relevant postgraduate degree in computer science or bioinformatics (or related field) along with relevant experience in computational data analysis. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with ability to establish effective working relationships and build networks. A PhD in Computer Science is desirable. Why choose Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute? The Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute (www.cruk.manchester.ac.uk), an Institute of The University of Manchester (www.manchester.ac.uk), is a world-leading centre for excellence in cancer research.  The Institute is core funded by Cancer Research UK (www.cancerresearchuk.org), the largest independent cancer research organisation in the world.  In spring 2023 the Institute moved into a £150 million flagship purpose-built biomedical research centre directly attached to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (www.christie.nhs.uk), in South Manchester. We are partnered with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe.  These factors combine to provide an exceptional environment in which to pursue basic, translational and clinical research programmes. How to apply? For any informal enquiries about this post, please contact Claus Jorgensen (claus.jorgensen@cruk.manchester.ac.uk). Closing date: Thursday March 7, 2024.
