We are recruiting for a Senior Contracting Performance Manager to join Tarmac. The fundamental aspect to this role will be working across the whole of the Tarmac business. You will be working with the Contracting Performance Director, regional and national business teams, support the delivery of business goals and strategic objectives, delivering EBITDA margin growth, with ambition of 6% by 2027. Drive the implementation and delivery of key business initiatives and all contracting optimisation projects (£7.1m over 3 years).

Main Responsibilities

The Senior Contracting Performance Manager will work to Drive Operational Excellence and efficiency within the contracting businesses, identifying, analysing and implementing improvements; thus, contributing to the overall business strategy. Key to this role will be working with the Contracting Performance Director, regional and national teams, develop and implement a comprehensive continuous improvement strategy aligned to business growth and Optimisation 2.0 goals.

As the Senior Contracting Performance Manager must be well-versed in all construction methodologies and procedures and be able to coordinate a team of professionals of different disciplines to achieve the best results. The ideal candidate will have an analytical mind and great organisational skills. Your responsibilities will include (not exhaustive):

  • Driving commercial and operational performance improvement, with specific focus on the benefits tracker initiatives; plant utilisation; labour utilisation; waste costs and increased use of Value Added Products
  • Deliver the performance management framework for contracting, overseeing the analysis of performance data to identify trends, patterns and areas for improvement
  • Facilitate root cause analysis to understand problems and develop sustainable solutions
  • Determine optimisation projects to continually drive business improvements and cost savings across the business
  • Lead the team to develop and maintain performance dashboards and reporting mechanisms, presenting regular performance updates and insights to senior leadership, highlighting achievements, challenges and opportunities for improvement
  • Lead and manage a team of CI Analysts, providing guidance, coaching and support to foster professional growth and development. Set clear performance objectives and KPIs for the CI team, monitoring progress and providing regular feedback to ensure alignment with business goals
  • Reviewing KPI’s monthly with regional teams, creating objectives and action plans based on these
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation throughout the contracting business
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels to drive change initiatives, address resistance and ensure strategic alignment
  • Working with the Contracting performance director to develop joined up national strategies which maximise value chain potential through up-stream contribution 
  • Work closely with business teams to continually drive commercial business improvements and coordinate the approach to targeted significant commercial opportunities

Tarmac and Acquisitions Management Teams – CRH Colleagues Globally - National Highways - Area Operations Managers - Finance – Sustainability – HSE – Technical – Operations – Human Resources

You will hold a FULL UK manual car driving license with no more than 6 penalty points

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant in the role will be instrumental in the future development and support of our culture. You will have experience as a Senior Contracting Performance Manager or Continuous Improvement Manager within an Infrastructure, Construction, Highways or Surfacing industry, this experience will be an essential requirement for this role.

Qualifications/Requirements/Capabilities:

  • Civil Engineering or other industry relevant higher-level qualification, a role related degree would prove highly beneficial
  • Proven experience in performance and project management, or operations leadership roles within a contracting environment
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools and methodologies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels and collaborate across cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including coaching, mentoring and team development
  • In-depth knowledge of lean principles, Six Sigma methodologies and other process improvement frameworks
  • Experience in change management whilst being an advocate for innovation – change agent
