Senior Corporate Communications Manager
iiCON Programme, part of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine
Full time post, fixed term contract until May 2025 (Maternity Cover)
iiCON is a world leading centre for infection innovation and R&D – working with industry, academics, and clinicians to save and improve lives around the world by supporting innovation and progressing the development of antimicrobial products and treatments.
Led by Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, our consortium partners Unilever, LifeArc, Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust, the University of Liverpool, Evotec, and Infex Therapeutics are working on number of innovative and ambitious programmes to accelerate the discovery, development, and deployment of innovative new anti-infectives, diagnostics, and preventative products across iiCON’s eleven specialist research platforms.
iiCON has seen exponential growth since it was established in 2020 and there are a number of ongoing projects that will help to shape the future of healthcare globally. We are currently looking to appoint a Senior Corporate Communications Manager to work alongside iiCON’s CEO, Professor Janet Hemingway, CBE, for a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
The purpose of the role is to lead on communications activity for iiCON – with responsibility for internal and external communications, effectively shaping strategic messaging, raising the profile of the programme whilst influencing and engaging diverse target stakeholder groups.
The Senior Corporate Communications Manager will support the ongoing evolution and growth of the organisation, through building recognition and awareness of iiCON’s strategic goals, mission and milestone successes.
Responsibilities include:
Media engagement – lead on media engagement, delivering a proactive press office function covering key news from the consortium and managing media enquiries. Building on strong relationships with journalists will be key in this role to raise the profile if the iiCON brand.
Content creation – lead on all content creation: write, edit and distribute content across multiple channels including news and feature articles, thought leadership, blogs and updates.
Internal communication – provide strategic and tactical communications guidance to the core team and partner organisations at all levels.
Strategic stakeholder & funder engagement – act as iiCON’s primary point of contact for communications with external stakeholders including funders such as UKRI, providing communications updates, supporting funder communications and representing the consortium at stakeholder meetings. Proactively developing strategic partnerships will also be fundamental in building the programme’s reach and influence.
Events & conferences – co-lead the planning and management of events and conferences including iiCON’s annual stakeholder meeting.
Digital & social – lead on the digital strategy for iiCON to deliver a dynamic social and digital profile for the brand. Website development activity will also be required.
Creative partners and suppliers –manage communications suppliers and agencies, setting key targets and project manage multiple workflows.
We are looking for an excellent communicator with a creative flair who can contribute to the growth and success of iiCON. The ideal candidate will:
Bring previous experience in a Communications Management role, preferably from a life sciences or public health environment.
Be comfortable implementing brand and communication strategies with experience from previous roles.
Demonstrate solid PR experience and will be comfortable liaising with high level stakeholders from a multitude of backgrounds.
Experience in managing suppliers, providing support and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
