Job Introduction

The BBC aims to stimulate and delight audiences across the UK with distinctive, creative content. To support this aim, BBC is entering a new charter period of significant and exciting change, developing new capabilities in order to define a BBC fit for the next generation.
We are making the shift from being a broadcaster that speaks to our audiences to being a service that is shaped by them and designed around their wants and needs. To achieve this mission of being a Digital First BBC, we are building a data organisation which will lead cultural and organisational change. This includes transitioning the BBC to a data product organisation, evolving our data architecture and embedding data capabilities company wide. To help us progress along that journey, the recently created Data Governance function plays a crucial part.
We are establishing the Data Governance team in order drive the implementation of our Data Governance strategy.
Are you looking for a role that builds on your experience with Data Governance and management? Are you keen to learn, grow, and develop? Do you want to work in a nurturing culture where you can flourish and be your best? Would you like to work on services that are used by key BBC products and millions of people each day? If so, this opportunity could be for you.
As Senior Data Governance Manager, you will play a crucial role in structuring and governing our data to drive meaningful actions and insights. By establishing a robust Data Governance framework, you will empower teams to maximise the value derived from our data.

  • Collaborating with domain data product owners, data engineers and relevant stakeholders to assess Data Governance needs, introduce necessary standards and data quality controls, and ensure compliance.
  • Developing and implementing data processes and practices, including data lineage tracking, data quality management, metadata management, data issue resolution etc.
  • Collaborating with Platform teams to ensure Data Governance principles are integrated into data systems, applications, and infrastructure.
  • Establish and maintain a risk register for the Data Governance Committee
  • Maintain a roadmap for regular data audits to ensure compliance, address potential issues, and enhance data quality.
  • Promote Data Governance disciplines and culture internally, educating the business on analytics, reporting, data management, and data quality.
  • Drive improvements in data quality and review data collected and used against Data Governance requirements.
  • Support the expansion of data tools, reporting, and knowledge sharing to democratise data across the company.
