Job description

The central Government People Group (GPG) provides support and guidance to departments, professions and other functions to build a modern and effective Civil Service. GPG supports the government workforce with the right skills and capability, working with leaders to get the right people in the right jobs, with the right skills and continuous learning to excel in their roles.

We provide leadership across central government, pulling together back office services and supporting the Cabinet Office’s priority to drive efficiencies, and reforms that will make government work better, to ultimately provide a better service to the public.

This role sits within Corporate Services Business Management under the Functional Strategy, Performance and Capability (FSPC) directorate, supporting GPG to be a high performing and delivery focused business unit and centre of the function.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced data-handler to join our Business Management Team which is responsible for providing the essential support functions and plays a critical role in ensuring the successful running of the business unit.

GPG is a recently formed unit, following a merger of two existing teams, so in addition to learning new skills, developing new products and processes there will be opportunity for you to shape the role and positively influence the immediate and wider team culture. As GPG continues to form, you will need to be comfortable working in a changing environment and across boundaries, responsive to the evolving needs of the business.

You will have a passion for data and an understanding of using data to improve business outcomes. You will be able to bring data to life using visuals that aid comprehension and facilitate rich conversations with a variety of colleagues/stakeholders.

You will have a key role in establishing a new suite of data-based reports for GPG’s senior team (and the business unit at large) with the opportunity to innovate and set direction. You will need to approach issues and challenges with a creative, can-do attitude to find the best solutions for the business.

Role Responsibilities

  • Taking the lead in the production and maintenance of Management Information Dashboards and reports.
  • Establishing effective Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and tracking organisational performance against them.
  • Working closely with the team lead to develop, establish and embed a suite of Tableau-created dashboards/reports that make best use of available data to enrich and improve business discussions and outcomes.
  • Supporting the corporate services team in improving data maturity for the wider business unit and embedding people analytics best practice.
  • Overseeing the management of GPG data held in workforce data systems, including staff in post spreadsheets, Organimi and OrgVue.
  • Ensuring robust data standards are established and maintained.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with line management of at least one direct report.
