Region: South West Country: United Kingdom Contract Type: Open Ended Work Hours: 35.0 Hours per Week Weeks per year-Weeks per year: 52.00 Salary: The role The Senior Data Scientist is a key role within the Jean Golding Institute for Data Science and data-intensive research (bristol.ac.uk/golding). The Data Scientist (DS) team participates in longer term Data Science projects that should lead to further funding applications, publications and other forms of accessible outputs. The role is open ended with fixed funding until January 2027. What will you be doing? The role holder will spend a significant part of their time leading and working on a number of research projects providing expert data science support, specialist technical knowledge and skills to analyse data science problems, before deciding on and executing an approach to solve problems in collaboration with University academics, researchers and staff. Typical research projects require extended support over months or years, and the role holder will be expected to actively contribute towards research, alongside researchers from PDRA to professorial level, working in both interdisciplinary teams and unsupervised. You should apply if The role holder is responsible for managing their team’s workload, to help balance the peaks and troughs in the academic year. They will need to have good time management skills, the ability to prioritise their own workload, and the ability to multi-task, in order to deal with these competing priorities. For example, the role holder may be leading several projects with different teams and competing deadlines. The role holder needs to consider Institute priorities, perhaps re-assigning workload within the team. Managing these competing priorities requires using judgment and discretion, as well as good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
