Salary: £47,690 - £65,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

The Capital Engineering Delivery team undertakes engineering assessment and design work in support of several key portfolios:
- Nuclear Risk Management - ensuring that the engineering assets supporting our safety cases are suitable and sufficient to protect our people and the public
- Design assessment of existing assets and identification of areas for improvement
- Engineering design for new assets and infrastructure, or for modification of existing installations
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer you will be responsible for undertaking and leading design activities with support from other junior engineers and engaging with other disciplines to ensure a joined up approach. This role is within the AWE's Electrical Technical Authority.
Key responsibilities
- Lead other Electrical engineers within the team, providing advice and guidance
- Lead delivery of engineering and design tasks within assigned areas
- Interfacing with other disciplines, both technical and non-technical
- Estimating and planning engineering tasks
- Supporting the Engineering Manager in ensuring that the requirements are correct and adequate
- Ensuring that the design intent and configured baseline are maintained throughout the facility lifecycle
What skills and qualifications are needed?
- An appropriate qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, BEng or MEng equivalent. HNC/HND may also be acceptable with relevant experience in a similar role
- Professional Engineering recognition as a Member - preferably but not essentially, registered as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council (or on the path to Chartership)
- A strong demonstrable experience, of working as an Electrical Design Engineer with a good knowledge in:
- Low Voltage (LV) (400V) Electrical distribution systems design, maintenance and test to the requirements of the IET Wiring Regulations BS7671, and applicable standards,
- Lightning and Surge Protection System design. In particular with regards to explosive atmospheres
Additionally, experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous:
- Fire detection and alarm systems (IEC 60839-5-1:2014)
- HV distribution system design, maintenance and test
- Explosive atmospheres - Electrical installations design, selection and erection (IEC 60079-14: 2014), including Intrinsically Safe Concepts
- Functional Safety (IEC 61508 and IEC 61511)
- AWE systems and processes
- Self-motivation, technical knowledge and a desire for self-development are important attributes for this position
- Understanding of Relevant codes and design standards for areas of experience
- A good understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSAWA), Construction Design Management (CDM), risk assessments
- Experience of Safety Cases or working in a highly regulated (e.g. Nuclear, Pharmaceutical, Oil and Gas) industry would be beneficial
- Good written, verbal and presentation skills - proficient in Microsoft's suite of desktop applications
Candidates must be willing to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role
