RWE Renewables develops, constructs and operates renewable energy projects around the world.
Due to increasing workload, we are now seeking an Electrical Engineer to assist us in progressing our offshore wind development projects towards construction.
The role will be based in Swindon or Coventry (hybrid options available) although, as the respective project progresses, there may also be some work required at contractor locations as business/project needs dictate and some travel will be required with the role, both nationally and internationally.
Role description
The Engineer will sit in RWE Renewables UK Offshore Electrical System & Project Engineering Region 2 team, supporting the Project’s Engineering and Package Managers with responsibilities including:
- Working across the whole project lifecycle from pre-consenting phase through construction to operation the Engineer will be responsible for ensuring a robust through life design of the project’s electrical system supporting on all aspects of the HV generation and transmission system up to the connection point to the existing transmission system.
- Liaison with National Grid to secure appropriate grid connections for projects.
- Lead and coordinate grid connection processes, organising all relevant technical documentation, test reports, and certifications.
- Support the definition of the main electrical system design for the project, covering all aspects of the onshore and offshore HVAC and HVDC systems.
- Development of specifications, subsequent TQ clarifications and ensuring specification compliance with selected consultants and contractors.
- Experience of creating simulation models for electrical systems performing load flow and short circuit calculations would be beneficial.
- A significant focus on interface topics, for example in the onshore substation and offshore platform(s)
- A specific focus on safety through design and through life performance of the assets.
- Close liaison with technical experts in the Electrical Components team and Engineers working on similar projects to ensure their knowledge is effectively utilised on the project
Required skills and experience
- University degree or comparable graduate education ideally in electrical power engineering
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards this)
- Experience in project engineering of offshore wind or similar renewable energy industry projects
- Experience of the grid connection process in the United Kingdom.
- Knowledge of electrical plant including large power transformers, switchgear, onshore transmission substations, static and dynamic reactive power compensation solutions, MV/LV auxiliary systems and cables
- Appreciation and understanding of Construction Design and Management Regulations.
- Effective communication, coordination and leadership skills, highly motivated, confident and resourceful
- Valid driving license
