Job Description
Rullion are working with Drax who operates a generation portfolio of sustainable biomass, hydro-electric and pumped hydro storage assets across sites in England and Scotland. It is the UK’s largest source of renewable electricity.
The Role:
The Senior Electrical Engineer’s purpose is to support our Hydro business through assuming responsibility for managing Electrical engineering and compliance activity across all sites to support improvements in operational performance based on sound investment and Electrical engineering standards.
Covers all plants within the Hydro Group that includes 8 conventional hydro stations (126MW) and a pump storage station (420MW). The stations are located from Tongland at the Solway Firth to Cruachan that is situated on the banks of Loch Awe approximately 180 miles apart. The Hydro Group generates an annual income of approximately £30M with an annual capital expenditure of approximately £6M. The post holder will be responsible for managing an annual capital budget of approximately £1M.
What a great candidate looks like:
Someone who can be a technical authority for Electrical engineering technical input and decision-making Projects (decommissioning, development, and construction).
Provides professional support and guidance to other members of the Engineering Team, and can communicate and interact with Senior Leadership and Professionals.
No two weeks are the same and different sites may require attention. Someone who is willing to work from home, the office, and travel to Hydro sites and control their own schedule to get the job done.
- Suitably Qualified (Honours Degree) in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical)
- Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) of relevant institute i.e. IET.
- Extensive relevant work experience in the Hydro and Electrical Engineering industry
- NEBOSH or IOSH certificate in Health & Safety or equivalent.
- Extensive working knowledge and understanding of Electrical engineering industry standards and legislation. General knowledge of a wide range of subject and specialist knowledge of a few areas of mechanical engineering.
- Highly developed communications and negotiation skills with the ability to form effective working relationships and persuade others to help them solve problems.
- A strong working knowledge/understanding of the operating procedures of the Hydro including commercial, technical, legal and procurement.
- High level of computer literacy is required.
- Effective interpersonal skills, especially in harnessing support and resources without line authority
- An awareness of safe systems of work and perimetry requirements for site activities is beneficial.
- An effective communicator at all levels
