A Senior Engineering Manager / Head of Software Engineering who will lead a multi-functional team, including software development, testing, Microsoft Dynamics and Power BI teams.
As a Senior Engineering Manager / Head of Software Engineering you will be responsible for the Software Engineering and test functions within the Business Systems Solutions department.
You will ensure high quality software solutions, whilst driving software development projects to successful completion. You will be responsible for ensuring all work items across the function are resourced, planned and controlled correctly and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Software Engineering function.
The team work on an exciting and varied portfolio of applications ranging in size, scale and complexity to support the needs of the business.
This role is eligible for inclusion in the Company’s hybrid working from home policy.
Preferred skills and experience
- Strong experience of managing software development and software testing functions.
- Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Power BI.
- Management and creation of technical and product roadmaps.
- Pragmatism to the delivery approach, giving real consideration to the best and most efficient way to build and release solutions.
- Excellent first-hand knowledge of Software development techniques and methodologies throughout the software development life cycle.
- Excellent planning and organisation skills, combined with interpersonal and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate confidently, effectively and clearly at all levels.
- Ability to manage and lead on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously.
- Strong analytical thinking skills, with the ability to simplify complex problems, process or projects into component parts.
- Experience working within a large IT function.
- Business and industry awareness.
Main responsibilities
- Leading, mentoring, and managing a team of Software engineers and software testers, covering bespoke development including Microsoft Dynamics, whilst fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Providing technical leadership in software architecture, design, and development.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and specifications.
- Driving the development of scalable, reliable, and efficient software solutions.
- Adhering to coding standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes.
- Establishing and maintaining a robust testing processes, including unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing, Implement and oversee automated testing strategies to improve test coverage and release quality.
- Monitoring and analysing software performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimisations.
- Staying current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software development and testing.
- Providing technical guidance and recommendations for software architecture and tool selection.
- Fostering innovation and encourage the adoption of new technologies when appropriate.
