Job overview
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is increasing its current number of Fire Safety Advisors and is looking for a highly motivated, qualified and enthusiastic person to join the Trust's Fire Safety team as a Senior Fire Safety Advisor.
Working across the Trust this position will support the Fire Safety team in delivering a full service in relation to Fire Safety and general team objectives.
This is a full-time post but alternative working patterns will be considered. Applicants need to state on their application form their preferred working pattern so this option can be discussed at interview.
This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated individual to enhance and promote sound Fire Safety practice across a diverse and changing estate.
The post holder will be joining a friendly, supportive and creative team, dedicated to providing a high-quality service. The Senior Fire Safety Advisor will be responsible for advising on technical and legislative matters as well as monitoring the state of Fire Safety in all of the Trust owned, leased and PFI premises in addition to any areas of non-Trust owned premises that are occupied by Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust.
The post holder will be required to travel to sites across Sussex and therefore it is essential that applicants are able to do so.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing a Fire Safety service utilising professional skills, leadership and specialist expert knowledge on matters concerning Fire Safety, undertaking fire risks assessments and other fire related issues to ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide a comprehensive, inclusive and professional fire management and training services for the Trust, providing expert advice on all fire related matters, to ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations.
Undertake fire risk assessments and reviews on trust occupied premises in accordance with trust audit programme.
Provide recommendations and prioritise action plans in respect of Fire Safety improvements. Promote a working environment and culture that actively improves Fire Safety and compliance with agreed standards of safety, effectiveness and patient/ service user experience throughout the Trust.
Deliver training to staff of all disciplines and levels on fire related matters where necessary in accordance with NHS best practice and guidance.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • This post requires a degree level qualification or equivalent experience + additional training through courses or experience to masters level or equivalent Fire safety qualification at level 4/diploma or an equivalent relevant experience. i.e. SFPO course or Fire Safety modules from the Fire Service College, Fire Protection Association (FPA) or equivalent
  • Recognised accredited Fire risk assessor's qualification
  • Adult teaching certificate/ qualification
  • Evidence of CPD

Knowledge/Experience
Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience working in Fire Safety post e.g. Fire Service, Armed Forces, NHS etc
  • Experience of delivering a varying range of Fire Safety training courses
  • Proven knowledge of the NHS Fire code (HTM's) documents
  • Proven knowledge of the Building Regulation including Approved Document "B"
  • Proven Knowledge of Fire Legislation (RRO) and enforcement protocols
  • Ability to undertake High risk and complex technical fire risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of risk management techniques
  • Experience of the Equality Act 2010

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
