As a Senior Front End Developer at Soap Media, you will be an integral part of our Front End Development Team. Your primary focus will be on crafting clean, efficient, and visually appealing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code to elevate the user experience across various web platforms. With a keen eye for detail, you will ensure cross-browser compatibility, implement responsive design principles, and apply the latest front-end development best practices. Collaborating seamlessly with our diverse teams, including the back end development team, design, CRO and SEO, you will play a crucial role in integrating data-driven insights and fostering a cohesive approach to deliver high-quality, performance-optimised web solutions for our clients.

Role Responsibilities

  • Coding and Development:
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code.
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and resolve related issues.
  • Develop responsive and visually appealing web layouts.
  • Follow best practices for front-end development and WordPress coding standards.
  • Apply Tailwind CSS for rapid and responsive design implementation.
  • Use Twig for dynamic data rendering within themes.
  • Utilise PHP for WordPress theme development.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of ES6 features and syntax.
  • Display proficiency in React for building interactive UI components.
  • Implement SEO-based coding practices for optimal website performance.
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design principles
  • Knowledge of accessible coding practices
  • Experience with coding for SEO

  • WordPress Development:
  • Develop WordPress themes using our bespoke WordPress framework, ensuring alignment with design specifications.
  • Gain a deep understanding of our WordPress framework, its conventions, and best practices.
  • Utilise specific functions, hooks, and filters for extending and enhancing theme functionality.
  • Set up a local development environment compatible with WordPress.
  • Understand and utilise the WordPress template hierarchy.
  • Create and manage custom post types and taxonomies.

  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Regularly communicate with team members and project managers about ongoing tasks and projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with other developers, especially those experienced with the Suds framework.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions.

  • Version Control:
  • Use version control systems, such as Bitbucket, to manage code changes.
  • Have a strong understanding of branching, merging, and committing code.
  • Seek and provide constructive feedback in pull requests to junior developers and peers.

  • Quality Assurance and Testing Leadership:
  • Conduct thorough internal testing of all front-end functionalities.
  • Proactively address issues and make improvements to minimise internal testing amendments.
  • Provide comprehensive testing of front-end code, including compatibility, performance, and usability tests.
  • Oversee debugging and issue resolution during the project development phase.
  • Take responsibility for implementing the go-live checklist, ensuring all items are addressed before launch.

  • Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing:
  • Act as a resource for others, providing guidance and support.
  • Offer advanced support in debugging WordPress framework-related issues.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior and mid-level developers, sharing knowledge and providing guidance.
  • Create, maintain, and oversee comprehensive documentation for WordPress themes, front-end code, and custom implementations.

  • Time Management, Leadership, and Reporting:
  • Demonstrate exemplary time management skills for timely project delivery.
  • Regularly report on progress and challenges faced during development.
  • Effectively manage and update time logs throughout the day.
  • Provide precise and reliable task estimations.
  • Collaborate with the Front End Lead and Technical Lead for strategic planning and vision setting.
  • Exhibit strong project management and leadership skills, including leading and mentoring juniors, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and guiding technical direction.
  • Ability to liaise with stakeholders and clients when required

  • Continuous Learning and Improvement:
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  • Continuously learn about new front-end development tools and practices.
  • Seek feedback from peers and superiors to improve skills and performance.
  • Actively participate in discussions, seek feedback, and understand project requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Over 3 years of experience in front-end development.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, and PHP.
  • Experience with WordPress theme development, especially with the Suds framework.
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices and web accessibility standards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to mentor and guide junior developers.
  • Proven track record in project management and meeting deadlines.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
