The role We’re looking for a brilliant and enthusiastic Senior Front End Developer to lead our front-end development activity in the Digital Experience team here at the University of Bristol. You’ll be responsible for our technical strategy and roadmap for front-end services across intranet and web products, bringing our infrastructure and ways of working up to modern standards. It’s an exciting time to take on this new role, as we look to roll out a new design system that will change how we deliver front-end services on our website. You’ll be a strong communicator, liaising with senior leaders to articulate technical limitations and possibilities within the current and future tech stack, in particular around new approaches with the design system. Managing a small team of developers, you will deliver services and solutions that meet our users’ needs and achieve the university’s strategic objectives. You’ll set the standards and best practices for the team and for 3rd party developers and make sure they’re adhered to. You’ll also need to be an excellent developer yourself, leading by example. What will you be doing? You will: Create the strategy and roadmap for our front-end technical infrastructure. Be responsible for rolling out a new design system across the university. Manage a team to deliver new solutions that solve user and business problems for our website and intranet. Be responsible for maintaining existing solutions, responding to issues and fixing bugs promptly. Set development standards within the team and make sure we maintain high quality technical documentation. Undertake research to evaluate the financial and technical viability of projects according to possible technical solutions. Are highly skilled in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6) and JavaScript libraries such as React and VueJS.
