Senior Geotechnical Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, specialized in fields of soil mechanics, fluid dynamics or earth structure and dynamics, to join our Seabed Intervention team at our office in Aberdeen, on a permanent staff basis. The Seabed Intervention team provides specialist engineering services on geotechnical design and installation aspects of wind turbine generator foundations and associated infrastructure such as cables, scour protection, crossings, etc., to all company departments and business units worldwide.

Your Responsibilities:

Within the Seabed Intervention department, you will be responsible for applying Geotechnical Engineering principles to the full range of offshore Geotechnical Engineering topics faced by the company in the offshore renewable sector. This will include, but not be limited to, site investigation, ground risk assessment, foundation design, cable trenching and rock dumping.

  • Perform within the Seabed Intervention discipline as Geotechnical Engineer and focal point of contact for projects.
  • Interpret findings of geophysical, geological and geotechnical surveys including investigations along submarine power cable routes or at wind turbine locations.
  • Assess soil conditions and create a ground model. This includes derivation soil parameters appropriate for design and installation of driven pile foundations, suction caissons, anchors, gravity-base foundation, etc.,
  • Provide recommendations for cable trenching, offshore construction and foundation installation methods and equipment.
  • Perform cable burial assessment and select suitable trenching tools.
  • Review scour protection solutions, estimate associated ground risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare foundation installation methods/procedures, perform driveability assessments, leg penetration analysis, selection of installation equipment and noise mitigation measures, geotechnical design of offshore structures foundations, as well as assessment of geotechnical related risks.
  • Provide geotechnical input to technical scope of works sent to subcontractors, coordinate and review subcontractor's documentation, as well as client provided procedures.
  • Prepare and review reports on Client's documentation, in-house analyses, provide input and review in-house project procedures and design documents, in varying phases of project.
  • Contribute to internal and Client meetings, as well as to planning of Projects/Tenders including estimation of Resources needed per work Package.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, Clients and the company internally on technical and logistical project matters, including technical coordination of subcontractor scopes.
  • Provide support on site / office, during execution of offshore wind projects, as geotechnical expert.
  • Support research and development within Seabed Intervention, contribute to expansion and sharing of knowledge, (lessons learned, work standards)
  • Provide guidance to engineers with respect to field of expertise, and mentor junior Engineers.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Master and or Academic Technical Degree in Geotechnics in curriculum, (Geotechnical, Fluid dynamics, Geology),
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within context of Geotechnical Engineering, including experience in offshore engineering.
  • Approachable, demonstrates credibility and can engage and influence at all levels.
  • Solutions based with effective planning and organization skills, approaches tasks in a structural and methodical manner.
  • Chartership, or working towards, with a professional organization, ICE, IMechE, etc.,
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Willingness to broaden knowledge and develop in career.
  • Good communication skills in English, both verbally and written.
  • A willingness to travel on short assignments overseas.
