Job description

The University is seeking to appoint a Senior Governance Officer to be responsible for a portfolio of lead responsibilities for a number of central University committees and related governance, assurance and compliance activities. The successful applicant will have experience of working within a statutory or regulatory framework and of committee work, be educated to degree level or equivalent. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Governance Team as part of the University Secretary’s Office, which provides corporate governance, policy, regulatory and legal advice. The role is aimed at someone looking to use their skills in supporting corporate governance arrangements to make a positive impact on the formal decision-making and assurance in this world-class University. You will act as Secretary to a number of key committees, working with members of the University Executive Board, the Senate, the Council and other senior leaders in preparing meetings, commissioning, writing and assembling agendas, papers and reports, providing information, and maintaining appropriate records of meetings. You will work closely with the Head of Governance and the University Secretary alongside colleagues in the University Secretary’s Office and across the University to ensure compliance with, and the effective operation of, the University’s governance processes. You will possess exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, including experience of drafting and editing a variety of different documents; have good diplomacy and interpersonal skills in dealing with stakeholders at all levels; an aptitude for forward planning; and the ability to work accurately and flexibly under pressure, on your own initiative and as part of a team. We are committed to enabling our employees to work in a hybrid model with flexibility over when, where and how to achieve the required outputs, in discussion with your manager. We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University. We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development. We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
