Essential Functions

In this role, you will lead the Grid Team to deliver and support engineering designs/requirements, execute business critical New Product Introductions, drive cost competitiveness, and ensure world class subsystem performance of the biggest offshore Wind Turbine up to date. This will be done by analyzing the Grid Codes requirements and ensure compliance with them, by developing the design Memos and specifications to define turbine design, by developing the models in PSCAD, PSSE, PFactory… and by validating them by tests and by assisting our Customers with Grid integration topics.

The purpose of the job will cover from conceptual design and functional specification to testing, validation of the Power Conversion electrical systems of GE offshore wind turbines.

You will work together with Supply Chain, EHS, Operations relevant stakeholders among others, to deliver the best solution from a whole value chain perspective.

Components involved in Power Conversion subsystem like Power converters, main power transformer, Harmonic Filter, MV Cables, Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) control, Grid Integration modeling and wind farm stability study to ensure proper integration of the NEXT GEN Offshore turbine on the grid.

In addition to component approach, it’s requested to make sure that each component will operate in harmony with the other and results in full subsystem performance in compliance with Power Conversion design requirement inherited from turbine system requirement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Technical Leadership of the Grid Team
  • Management of daily operations of the Grid Team: Definition of priorities, schedule, assignation of resources.
  • Full ownership and accountability for design, development, testing and certification of appointed sub-system.
  • Ensure quality of deliverables, on time delivery, design cost, DFMEA, performance, availability, weight and general targets defined by the business related to the sub-system.
  • Ensure sub-system full integrated solution, controls as well as turbine system requirement (including grid code).
  • Ensure proper design reviews and documentation quality according to RE-120 Instruction and defined project gates.
  • Perform Engineering Excellence and provide innovative design solutions to deliver world class quality.
  • Turbine system modeling with focus on Power Conversion part and turbine Grid Integration
  • Develop turbine PSCAD/DigSilent/PSSE models for customer projects, be accountable for customer grid models delivery plan
  • Develop internal tool (electrical/thermal/semi-conductor base) considering NEXT GEN operating data for validating turbine design for future turbine evolution
  • Customer requirements review, clause by clause review

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years proven technology and/or product management experience in Grid Integration topics in similar position.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Desired Characteristics

  • Wind industry expertise with proven results developing & implementing technology programs.
  • Experience in conducting system validation, test bench testing, and field measurements
  • Experience in Power Conversion design, closed loop control including power converter and related component technical and business expertise.
  • Knowledge of Standards and Design Codes.
  • Experience in analyzing grid codes, extracting requirement end define system/component specification for meeting that grid codes
  • Experimented user with PSCAD software, Matlab Simulink, ideally also with DIgSILENT Power Factory
  • Skilled in electrical component design calculations, specifications and schematics.
  • Demonstrated system thinking: ability to assess tradeoffs, effectively assess risk, and optimize results.
  • Business acumen and customer focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work horizontally across stakeholders to influence outcomes.
