Salary: £38,320

This post will have a base in either Peterborough or Aberdeen.

JNCC has adopted a hybrid working approach, allowing colleagues to benefit from time in the office, with the flexibility also to work from home. Employees are expected to work from our office base for 1 – 2 days a month as a minimum, this will vary by team and the exact balance will depend on the nature of your role. We can provide more details at the interview and offer stages.

Who are JNCC?

Established in 1991, we are the UK’s statutory advisor on issues affecting the natural environment across the UK and internationally. Our primary role is advising all four Governments of the UK. We also work with private sector organisations to support decision making on the sustainable use of marine waters and natural resources around the UK. JNCC is led by the Joint Committee, which brings together members from the nature conservation bodies for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and independent members appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under an independent Chair. Support is provided to the Committee by approx. 300 people who bring together scientific and technical expertise, extensive knowledge of policy at global, European and national levels, and skills in working with other organisations. Staff are based in two main offices in Peterborough and Aberdeen.

Hours of work: Full-time or part time 28+ hours

Normal minimum hours of attendance for the post are 36 hours per week over a 5-day period, Monday to Friday. Part-time working of at least 28 hours per week could be considered within the Monday - Friday core hours period.

Flexi time is available. This post may also be suitable for job share.

Annual Leave:

The annual leave allowance is 25 days per year, rising to 30 days per year after 5 years’ service. There are also 12 days public and privilege leave. Part-time staff will receive this on a pro rata basis.

Post background

The JNCC HR team is a small team responsible for carrying out the full range of HR roles and responsibilities. The Senior HRE Manager role is a senior and influential post, supporting the business to deliver HR strategic objectives to support the delivery of JNCC’s Together for Nature Strategy.

Working closely with the Head of HR and two other HR Business Partners (BPs), this post will lead on providing workforce solutions with a view to enabling delivery of the organisational strategy and objectives. The postholder will lead on aspects of work associated with forward planning, modernisation, engagement, motivation and performance.

As a qualified HR professional, you will use a combination of generalist knowledge, personal skills and experience to support leaders to align people and business priorities.

Post Duties

  • Working in partnership with the other HR BPs and Head of HR to deliver HR strategic objectives to support delivery of JNCC’s Together for Nature Strategy.
  • Strategic role in supporting JNCC to become a learning organisation, implementing initiatives such as Talent Management, succession planning and upskilling line managers to develop our people.
  • Provide expertise and support to senior leaders on Strategic workforce planning and flexible resourcing.
  • Ensure people survey results have appropriate action plans and that these are well supported within the organisation.
  • Lead on the development and review of HR policies and procedures, in line with available Civil Service policies and procedures and organisational requirements
  • Working collaboratively with external organisations such as Defra
  • Support HRBPs when additional capacity is required for complex ER Case Management
  • Line management of one team member.
  • Any other duties required to support business objectives.

Technical

To be a successful candidate you will be/have:

  • CIPD L5 (or equivalent), working towards or willingness to work towards
  • Experience of delivering HR projects or initiatives

Experience (Responsibilities)
