Job description

Our client, based in Kent, is currently recruiting for a Senior Information Governance Officeron a temporary interim three month contract.

The position is due to start immediately on a full-time basis. The hourly rate is negotiable based on experience.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience of Information Governance in the Public Sector, and will be comfortable training staff and acting as the Data Protection Officer as and when required.

PLEASE NOTE: No line management required for this role.

Duties will include (but not limited to):

  • Ensuring compliance with Information Laws including (but not limited to) the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), UK-GDPR, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI), the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR)

  • Supporting the overall development, management and delivery of the Council’s IG Strategy and work programmes; overseeing data processing practices and ensuring they meet statutory requirements

  • Managing Information Governance assessments, strategies, roadmaps, organisational design and program design and implementation spanning the discipline of records management, privacy, information security and information technology to ensure privacy by default and design is captured

  • Providing support for internal audits regarding compliance against policies and standards around data and information protection to enable the auditors to assess gaps accurately

  • Deputising as Data Protection Officer in the absence of Head of Information Governance (DPO) and providing support as required to ensure consistency of standards are maintained

Experience required:

  • Working within related central or local government Information Governance function

  • Understanding local government services

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

  • Knowledge and understanding of public sector obligations in relation to Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004, and other relevant legislation relating to Information Governance

Working hours:

  • 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday - Friday
