Salary: £55,000 up to £65,000 dependent upon experience

The Role

 

Are you looking for a job where you will work on aviation and aerospace projects ranging from the integration of electric vehicles into UK Airspace to the delivery of carbon Net Zero and beyond? Could you partner with external customers and internal policy experts to facilitate the trials of innovative aviation concepts and explore how regulatory policies should advance to enable the UK to be at the forefront of innovation in the future aviation global marketplace?

 

Due to expansion in the team, we are looking for individuals to join our Innovation Advisory Services team. Acting as an Innovation Principal in the Innovation Advisory Service (IAS) team, you will work closely with the industry providing guidance and support towards regulatory readiness with the aim of gaining insight and knowledge that inform the development of new regulatory frameworks.

 

Innovation Principals help to lead the Innovation Advisory Services team. They have a significant influence on the direction the team takes and the services it provides. Innovation Consultants coordinate all advisory activities in specific innovation area. They typically oversee many advisory projects where they primarily focus on the project’s goals and the value the projects unlock for customers and the CAA. They lead advisory projects that are complex, or for large or particularly important customer organisations. Innovation Principals foster synergies between innovation advisory activities and policy development activities.

 

You will be working with a broad range of organisations from start-ups to multinational companies.

 

This is an outstanding and unique opportunity to address some of the most technically exciting, controversial, and pressing issues in aviation today and into the future.

 

Core responsibilities will include:

 

  • Discussing with Innovation Specialists the progress of their projects. Guiding and supporting Innovation Specialists
  • Leading and coordinating all advisory activities for their innovation area (e.g. BVLOS, UTM, NZP, AAM). This covers advisory projects with industry stakeholders, advisory programme funded by UK government, and test & trial programmes defined by the CAA policy teams
  • Leading advisory projects that are complex
  • Ensuring the quality of products, services, and processes meet the CAA and industry stakeholders goals, objectives and desired outcomes
  • Leading the creation of technical proposals that document IAS support offering to customers
  • Consolidating, analysing and interpreting knowledge gained across all advisory activities across their innovation area
  • Defining frameworks to share – internally and externally - knowledge gained across all advisory activities for their innovation area and ensuring that as a result value is created and drives change
  • Contributing to internal technical working groups that are related to their innovation area
  • Building collaborative relationships with heads of functions and policy leads across the organisation
  • Contributing to IAS leadership team meetings

 

About You

 

We are looking for someone who has an interest in innovation and the technological trends that will shape the future of aviation. To be considered for the role you need to have the following competencies:

 

  • Has led projects in an innovation, research, or consultancy environment
  • Has developed advanced project management skills, leadership abilities and deep knowledge of their industry
  • The role requires experience in managing relationships with industry and senior internal stakeholders, with the confidence to challenge them when necessary. Drives conversations with the courage to challenge to gain buy-in and commitment from colleagues, stakeholders, and customers
  • Demonstratable understanding of a broad range of innovation and technological trends that will shape the future of aviation, e.g. artificial intelligence, digitisation, and automation, RPAS, UTM, UAM, electrification and battery technologies
  • A curious and quick learner, able to analyse complex information and uncover new insights from multiple projects
  • Critical mindset with the ability to apply a risk-based and principles-led approach where there are currently no standard or regulation
  • Displays a positive attitude and welcomes other perspectives when considering ways to ‘do things differently’
  • Effective written and verbal communication style. Uses a variety of communication styles to adapt to colleagues, stakeholders, and clients
  • An understanding or background of working within a regulated environment either within an aviation specialism (such as airspace, RPAS, airworthiness, air traffic management, flight operations, UAS, aviation security, or consumer protection) or another safety critical industry is desirable
  • Possess a flexible and adaptable approach with evidence of working in highly dynamic and changing environments
  • Adapts working style and approach as required to different innovation activities, embedding agility in the delivery of advisory activities

Additional Information

 

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

 

To be vetted you must have the right to work in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken.
