We are offering a role for a qualified Lawyer in our in-house Legal Team to deal with Adult Social Care matters.

It’s an opportunity to look after a varied caseload of Adult Social Care matters and support a growing caseload of Related Litigation, including inquests, insurance, education and employment work.

This role would be suitable either for a Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow with experience in Adult Social Care. Applications from individuals who also demonstrate relevant experience in employment law will be welcomed.

Main Responsibility

  • Ensure the delivery of value for money services to high practice standards within a culture of continuous improvement
  • Provide legal advice to clients in a range of areas including Adult Social Care (predominantly), with the opportunity to develop a practice which includes Education, Employment, JR, Inquests and Insurance.
  • Drafting advice, documents and pleadings.

The Ideal Candidate

  • The successful candidate will be required to have knowledge and experience of Adult Social Care, including Court of Protection proceedings and all relevant legislation, and be able to work primarily without supervision.
  • Take responsibility for allocated cases from instruction through to completion, and supervision of the work of junior members of the team.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of developments in law and government guidance that could impact upon the Council’s work.
  • Establish and maintain a deep understanding of the client’s business needs, build and maintain effective professional working relationships with clients, other stakeholders and relevant external organisations to ensure that the city council is best placed to achieve it's objectives.
  • Ensure effective use of the legal case management system.
  • Assist in supervising the advice and casework of junior members of the team, including Trainees and Paralegals as arranged with the Principal Lawyer. Through high quality service, advice and casework to support the Council in achieving its outcomes successfully.
  • A team player who is reliable, helpful, self-motivated and demonstrates a personal commitment to the Council’s Corporate Values.
  • Manage a caseload consisting primarily of Adult Social Care law matters ensuring that all work is both of a high quality and delivered in a timely manner. All work should be undertaken with the purpose of assisting the Council to achieve its business objectives and operate within the wider policy context.
  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (Supreme Court of England and Wales/English Bar) or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives or equivalent with experience in the relevant area of law.
  • Knowledge and experience of Adult Social Care, including Court of Protection proceedings and all relevant legislation.
  • Established knowledge of relevant local government law.
  • Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks a Standard DBS check will be actioned for you, (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week.  Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
