Job description

The University of South Wales, a member of the Teaching Excellence Alliance, is appointing a Senior Lecturer in Analytical Toxicology. Working as a member of Biological and Forensic Sciences, you will be part of the larger Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science.

This exciting opportunity is a permanent position covering teaching and research responsibilities in the Forensic Science subject area. Based at the Glyntaff campus, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver learning materials in the areas of Analytical Toxicology and related Forensic Science subjects.

The successful candidate will utilise previous experience of service or academic delivery in this area drawing upon their knowledge and abilities in Analytical Toxicology, laboratory-based quality management systems and data interpretation and reporting processes to successfully design, coordinate, and deliver modules and extensive practical experience to undergraduate and postgraduate students specifically in this and related subject areas.

Previous experience of an industry/working environment in these areas is essential. Candidates will also be expected to have experience of the use of analytical instrumentation used in the field of Analytical Toxicology, a deep understanding of the science of toxicology, specimens and standard operating procedures used in the field, plus laboratory regulation and governance processes with the ability to train students across the academic levels.

As a Senior Lecturer at USW, the successful candidate will be expected to develop learning materials and research in line with professional body requirements, the successful candidate’s own experience, and through engaging with external organisations and companies to secure opportunities for research and student learning.

The role will also require delivery of training in a wider range of common analytical techniques such as chromatographic and spectroscopic analysis, particularly related to forensic and criminal investigation, but also to students in other related subject areas.

The University is committed to delivering research relevant to Society and our activity is coordinated through our Research and Innovation Groups. Ideally candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant area or show a desire to work towards one. Candidates would be expected to have an established research profile or plans to develop their work relevant to the subject area.

The successful candidate will also assume the responsibilities of Course Leadership of our flagship Forensic Science course/s acting as a figurehead both internally and externally with overall responsibility for the recruitment, retention, progression, personal development and employability of students as well as quality and quality assurance monitoring of the course. Therefore, previous experience in the above or in a related capacity is essential as is the knowledge and understanding of quality and standards in this field of education.

This is a full time, permanent term post.
