Job title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Samlesbury

What you'll be doing:

  • Researching new manufacturing technologies for application to airframe manufacture
  • Working with Product Engineering teams to identify manufacturing and materials technologies solutions for aircraft production
  • Working hands on and with internal organisations/ suppliers/ partners to conduct development programmes to mature technologies
  • Creation of reports, to a high standard, to document outputs of development programmes including what has been achieved, how this was done and requirements for future work. This will include preparation of reports for consumption by external customers.
  • Identifying benefits from a cost/ schedule/ product performance perspective, determining how to capture these and reporting on them.
  • Development of business cases to justify the application/ deployment of technologies

 

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  • Degree, HND or recognised apprenticeship with appropriate experience in an applicable subject area (Mechanical/ Manufacturing/ Aeronautical/ Materials Engineering)
  • Previous experience of CAD/ CAM/ PLM toolsets and a willingness to investigate and learn future toolsets

The Technology Capability Delivery-Airframe Composite team:

Technology Capability Delivery - Airframe Composite Team are charged with identifying, developing and maturing technologies which will provide product performance, cost and lead-time advantage to BAE Systems both for current and future platforms, working with technology suppliers, Research and Development organisations and universities to deliver this goal. This role is based within the Special Engineered Composites Facility at our Samlesbury site. In addition, through our partnerships with Research and Technology organisations, we undertake work with the National Composites Centre in Bristol, the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Sheffield, and the North West AMRC situated on the Samlesbury Enterprise Zone. From a Manufacturing perspective our activities encompass: Future Composites processes such as automated layup, 3D pre-forms and dry fibre/resin infusion.
