Job description

About Shelter

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination, and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team

This exciting opportunity sits in Shelter’s Community & Events department in Shelter’s Income Generation Directorate.

Community & Events is made up of our Community Fundraising, Supporter Experience, Digital Fundraising & Marketing and Mass Participation teams, across the team we look after a wide range of fundraising activities encouraging supporters to raise money and providing them with the support to do so.

This position as Senior Mass Participation Manager (Third Party Lead) sits within Shelter’s Mass Participation team.

About the role

You will report into the Head of Mass Participation and work closely with our Senior Mass Participation Manager (Bespoke Lead) who primarily oversees bespoke Mass Participation products. At Shelter we are passionate about developing our colleagues and supporting you all the way.

Within this role you will oversee and develop Shelter’s third-party challenge events, work on event delivery, supporter experience, and feed into the wider Mass Participation planning, processes, ways of working and team culture.

Following challenging years due to the impact of COVID on events and the cost-of-living crisis, 2023 saw third-party challenge events, such as half marathons, marathons and treks, experience a resurgence in popularity, and Shelter took the opportunity to invest in and grow our third-party portfolio. Having seen a return to pre-pandemic levels of performance, we are aiming to achieve significant growth in the coming years across third-party products by further increasing our participation, exploring new events and opportunities, as well as implementing improved supporter communications and processes.

This is a rare and exciting role that an ambitious fundraiser could drive forward to grow the Mass Participation portfolio here at Shelter.
