Job description

Our client, a product development led manufacturing company and a true leader in their industry is looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to manage a team of experienced Design Engineers and to lead on new product development. An exciting time to join, as they continue to grow, develop and launch innovative & industry leading products.

Leading a team of engineers responsible for the design, development, testing and introduction of new new products.

They will design components and systems using SolidWorks and other design tools in a range of materials and considering a wide range of manufacturing processes from aluminium casting to plastic injection moulding.

Engineers are involved in all stages of development and will participate in prototyping, testing and initial factory builds.

Developing and maintaining document records like 2D drawings, specifications, standards the engineering BOMs is an integral part of the role.

There will be a hands on element to the position which will include:

  • Solve complex engineering problems using mechanical engineering principles including the definition of materials
  • Use 3D and 2D CAD to generate models and drawings of components and assemblies
  • Use FEA to analyse design performance
  • Create and maintain bills of materials
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives
  • Create specifications that can be used in the procurement of bought out components
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to ensure product feasibility
  • Building and testing of prototypes and engineering samples

Candidate Attributes

Essential

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or commensurate experience in a similar role
  • 3D and 2D CAD software competency (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Experience with a PDM system (SolidWorks, Teamcenter or similar)
  • Understanding and application of GD&T
  • Component and or assembly design
  • Understanding of design for manufacture
  • Understanding of design for cost
  • FEA/CAE

Not essential but desirable

  • Experience or knowledge of Extrusion, Casting, Injection moulding, Joining methods
  • Experience of CNC machine programming or similar
  • Experience writing test plans/DVP
  • Experience with DFMEA
  • Experience using SolidWorks
