Job description

Deregallera Ltd is a progressive, high-tech R&D company based in Caerphilly, Wales, developing ultra-high-performance motors and drives, electric vehicle systems and software and a new generation of safe, sustainable and non-toxic energy harvesting and storage systems. We have established a multidisciplinary research group with the aim of supporting the rapid development of new materials and structures that may be used in these applications.


The team now needs a full-time Senior Mechanical Design Engineer fitting the following profile;



Qualifications


Essential:

•       BEng/MEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline


Desirable:

•       Chartered engineer status



Experience


Essential:

•  Currently (or within the last year) working as a Mechanical Design Engineer in a relevant field

•  Extensive relevant, hands-on, industry experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer

•  SolidWorks 3D modelling, 2D drawing & simulation proficiency

•  Experience of high-speed rotating assemblies (motors, engines, turbines etc)

•  Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles and design best practices

•  Part design and drafting, geometric tolerancing, BoM generation

•  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 

•  Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques and the associated tolerances

•  Able to take a design from a specification through concept, detail design, to a fully functional and tested prototype


Desirable:

•  Electric motor design

•  Thorough understanding of limits and fits

•  Competent with FEA and hand calcs

•  Automotive industry experience

•  Understanding of electrical systems (for design of PCB outlines/cable routings)

•  Good drawing skills



Daily Tasks and Responsibilities


•  Responsible for design and drafting of components and assemblies for manufacture of prototypes

•  Identification and sourcing of necessary components

•  Working with a wide range of materials including all common engineering metals and polymers, machined and 3D- printed parts

•  Liaising with key suppliers

•  Assembling and testing prototypes 

•  Concept generation, presentation and documentation

•  Test and validation procedure writing and implementation


The above list is not exhaustive and other relevant duties will be assigned as necessary based on the changing demands of the business.

•  Thorough, systematic approach with close attention to detail

•  Enthusiastic with the ability to learn quickly

•  Flexible and able to prioritise tasks

•  Effective time-management skills



If not already residing in the local area, relocation to within a 45-minute commute would be a requirement.  Financial assistance is available.
