This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Metrologist and Test Engineer with excellent communication skills who is looking to work for a national regulator and join a friendly and supportive team.
The opportunity:
OPSS lead the regulatory system for legal metrology, product safety, construction products and standards in the UK. OPSS Testing Laboratories team is a multidisciplinary group of scientists and engineers delivering testing capability across metrology, mechanical, electrical, chemical and flammability facilities. In collaboration with other OPSS evidence teams such as science and engineering, our outputs inform policy development, incident investigation and the delivery and enforcement of product regulations.
The role is based in Teddington with flexible and hybrid working offered (80% minimum on-site attendance is required) and will occasionally be required to travel to other locations to meet with staff, relevant partners, stakeholders and customers.

Responsibilities:
You will have responsibility for leading a wide-ranging portfolio of work including, but not limited to the following:
- Providing high accuracy calibrations and Testing
- Review the uncertainty budgets and ensure the continuous improvement and development of measurement services
- Assist in the development of new services beneficial to the team and OPSS
- Work with the team to develop a robust and resilient quality service
- Ensure compliance with BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for the calibration/test laboratories
- Line management of technical staff, prepare laboratory risk assessments and other key documents, ensuring standard operating procedures and quality systems are fit for purpose and inclusive
