Job description

The post holder is an expert clinical practitioner of midwifery. S/he coordinates and manages the day-to-day activities for the delivery suite, obstetric theatres, obstetric high dependency unit (HDU), allocating the team in accordance with capabilities and workload. The post holder is responsible for the unit out of hours and at weekends whilst on duty. S/he provides management and professional leadership The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implantation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care.
The post holder provides clinical guidance and support for other members of the multidisciplinary team within the delivery suite, ward areas and other outside agencies i.e. GPs and community midwifery services. He/She facilitates an environment that cultivates the concepts of evidence-based care and is responsible for supervision, education and professional development of staff and students. The post holder will assist in the effective management of the ward budget.
This includes monitoring and controlling revenue and expenditure so that budget limits are not exceeded, thus contributing to effective use of resources. This post will involve direct liaison with delivery suite based at our sister site, across the city.
