Senior Occupational Therapist 

Newcastle and Gateshead LD

Permanent, Part Time (30 hpw)  

Salary circa £35,000 p.a. pro rata negotiable dependent on skills and experience

Be part of something brilliant at Home Group and join us as our Senior Occupational Therapist, where clinical interventions work hand in hand with daily support.

You’ll be supporting our customers in Newcastle and Gateshead LD, which provides support to adults with Learning Disabilities, identifying the things they want and aspire to do in their lives. This will include the assessment and management of a range of complex occupational therapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of learning disabilities conditions. You’ll identify and facilitate collaboratively skills development programmes and support customers to achieve their goals through engaging in meaningful and purposeful everyday activities important to them and for them. You’ll work closely with our Support Workers to deliver personalised interventions, formulation meetings and from this develop goal-based recovery and wellbeing focused plans, as well as regularly reviewing customer progress. You will hold responsibility for the line management and mentoring of an OT apprentice, supporting them in their journey to be a qualified clinician. 

You’ll be joining an established national team of Occupational Therapists and have opportunities to participate within the wider OT workforce, influencing the evolution of occupational therapy in the organisation, and developing both your practice and career.

Typical day as a Senior Occupational Therapist   

  • Help shape our services, developing essential standards and quality outcomes. 
  • As an experienced clinician, support and develop our teams to maximise customer independence and improve outcomes.
  • You’ll lead on the assessment and management of a range of complex occupational therapy needs, providing clinical advice to our colleagues on the day-to-day support customers need.
  • You’ll work closely with our support team to deliver personalised interventions and behaviour support plans.
  • You’ll identify where skills development is required so our customers can achieve their goals through everyday activities.
  • Enhance colleagues’ knowledge and skills, promoting regular, honest and supportive feedback. 
  • Liaise, or assist support staff with liaising, with external professionals when needed, using your expertise to ensure our customers receive the support they require in an effective multi-disciplinary way.
  • Be a point of contact for individual support and coaching of the managers in our services.
  • Provide support for managers where required in service improvements and audits.
  • There’s no red tape or mounds of paperwork here!

About You

  • You’ll hold relevant professional qualifications including HCPC Occupational Therapist
  • Experience of working with a range of vulnerable people who have complex needs which impact on their function. These may include learning disabilities, mental health and autistic spectrum disorder. 
  • You’ll really impress us with your ability to understand where our customers are in their lives, using evidence-based practice and current occupational therapy-based interventions.
  • You’ll use your OT specialism to support our customers in a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led way. 
  • Experience of holding a caseload, with evidence of effective caseload management and prioritisation
  • Able to inspire others and advocate a philosophy of support that is person centred, maintains dignity, independence, and ensures it is right for that person at that time. 
  • The ability to work as part of a remote, national team supporting a large number of services.

Our team  

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll report to Sophie, our Operations Manager.   Our Clinical Practice team will provide support and clinical supervision will come from Viki, our Clinical Expert. You'll work closely with the Registered Manager's Andrew and Andrina. To us we’re not just a team we’re a ‘work family’. We don’t just love to support our customers, we’re there for each other too!

Job details  

  • Flexible working hours (we’re open to agreeing a work pattern with you)
  • To get from A to B, you’ll need a vehicle insured for business purposes. The great news is that we’ll pay your mileage!
  • You’ll manage your own diary, so if you need to nip out to walk the dog or do the school run, we’re ok with that!
  • This is a hybrid role working out in our services supporting teams and managers across the country, so no two days will be the same. You will also spend time working from home and if there is a local office you can pop in there too. We promote anchor days to support an office day. 
  • Able to use technology for completing online learning, collaborating with colleagues and writing, updating notes/reports etc.
  • We’ll support with your continual professional development as well maintaining your professional registration through regular clinical supervision and reflective practice. 

You’ll need a valid Enhanced DBS check to do this job. We pay for that if you don’t have a transferrable one.
