Job description

This is an innovative and challenging role with a clear purpose of harnessing the energy, expertise and commitment across government and into the private sector to counter fraudulent attacks on the Welfare System and mitigate losses from fraud, error and debt. The role and team will sit within the DWP’s Counter Fraud and Compliance and Debt (CFCD) Directorate. The aim is to ensure DWP work more effectively with partners at both a strategic and operational level to prevent the loss of benefit through both Fraud and Error. You will be working in a small team to drive forward key activities around Cross Government Partnerships.

CFCD is a great place to work where the leadership team are passionate about attracting the best talent whilst nurturing and valuing new and existing colleagues to be the best they can be. We are looking for people who can demonstrate our values and commitment to leadership which are based around Collaboration, Resilience and Inclusivity. We look for emotionally aware leaders who enable teams to be innovative, adaptable and flexible. We want you to be comfortable challenging the norm and finding daring and dynamic solutions that support our values and enable colleagues to shine in whatever role they do.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion matters to us. We are keen to hear from candidates from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.

This is a national team and occasional travel for meetings will be required, including possible overnight stays in UK locations.

Successful candidates can expect to be involved in a range of the following:

  • The work will be varied and will include assessing and analysing potentially complex data from various sources, applying appropriate weighting to assist in informing outcomes and independent evidence-based recommendations. A key component will involve mapping current processes, organisational details, stakeholder networks and engagement within the department and across government and the private sector to aid collaboration and to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Collaboration with existing stakeholders and identification of new stakeholders and partners: quickly identifying the right stakeholders, developing strategic relationships within the public and private sectors to be able to understand an individual issue in detail; proactively engage with stakeholders to collaborate on complex work and maintain those relationships, balancing competing priorities.
  • Ensure common areas of risk and threats are identified and understood, maximising opportunities to share intelligence, data and insight around shared risks and customer groups.
  • Contribute to the development of impactful, joint, targeted operational and / or procedural responses with other government departments and external bodies, project-managing specific initiatives, ensuring plans are developed, implemented and progress is monitored to ensure key milestones and deliverables are met.
  • Communicate complex issues in a way that is easy to understand, with an eye for detail and ability to tailor style/content for different audiences. The role may require drafting briefings and papers; delivering presentations, facilitating workshops and supporting senior governance meetings.
  • Be flexible and recognise influencing factors coming over the horizon and adapt to them without losing momentum on the priorities.
  • Line management responsibility where appropriate, leading and managing a small team of colleagues displaying inspirational leadership to them to deliver excellent outcomes.
