Job description
Your operational and strategic modelling expertise will support critical government decisions on migration and border control The Home Office’s mission is to deliver a safe, fair and prosperous UK. As well as working to reduce crime and enforce the law, we strive to protect the vulnerable and have a proud history of providing refuge to those who have been displaced or are seeking asylum. These are significant issues, often controversial and regularly at the top of the news. That’s why the Home Office puts analysis at the centre of policy-making and operational decisions. Our community of more than 700 analysts is engaged in high-profile, intellectually stimulating work that requires innovative analytical solutions. Working with partners across government and internally, Home Office Analysis and Insight (HOAI) provides robust evidence to inform the development of new policies on regular and irregular migration. We are currently increasing our capacity and capability across research, modelling, monitoring and evaluation roles. As a Senior Operational Researcher, you can expect to focus on one of the following: operational and strategic modelling of irregular migration systems processes; visualising, communicating and forecasting the ways that people move through the asylum system; or modelling the effects of the Future Borders and Immigration System transformation programme. All roles offer the opportunity to work closely with researchers, statisticians and economists and to provide decision support at the highest levels. There will also be the opportunity to line manage staff. As an experienced analyst, you will be skilled in designing and delivering operational research projects. Your expertise in simulation modelling or related areas such as data science, will have been honed through practical experience. Adept at method selection, you will be open to new ideas and building capability, but pragmatic in supporting decision-making in a timely way. In addition to your academic achievements (typically 2:1 degree minimum), you will be able to communicate key research messages clearly and concisely to stakeholders. A strong team player, you’re ready to work flexibly in response to changing priorities, while maintaining delivery of your core projects. Along with extensive training and development, we offer structured career progression. Other benefits include access to a valuable civil service pension and flexible working arrangements.
