We operate multiple retail brands including Kwik Fit with over 800 centres in the UK and Netherlands as well as Stapletons Tyre Services which sells over 6 million tyres to trade customers in the UK.

ETEL Technology

Supporting over 800 locations including our retail centres, warehouses and dealership sites is no small task. Our Technology department plays a key role in delivering a high quality service to ETEL’s customers 7 days a week. With positions in Architecture, Software Development, Project Management and Technology Operations, our Technology Team provides a complete end to end service to the ETEL business.

The role


ETEL is a large and complex business encompassing (i) Retail – Kwik Fit, Tyre Pro’s, Central Tyre, Kwik Fit Mobile and Kwik Fit Fleet brands, (ii) Stapleton’s wholesale & distribution, and (iii) ETEL Head Office functions e.g. Finance, People, Technology.

Reporting to the Retail Development Manager the Senior Oracle Developer performs a critical role within the Retail Technology Solutions team with the responsibility for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining Oracle-based applications and databases. As a senior member of the team, you will play a crucial role in designing efficient and scalable solutions, providing technical leadership, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality software.

The Senior Oracle Developer will work as a key member of the Retail Technology Solutions team and with other teams in the department (e.g. Architecture & Data Analytics, Transformation & Project Delivery, Operations) to ensure the future direction of technology supports and enables both the Retail business strategies and the overall ETEL Technology Strategy.

This permanent role is based upon 40hrs per week between Monday and Friday, on a hybrid basis to include time spent onsite at our central offices in Broxburn, plus other ETEL UK locations when required.


Key accountabilities


Team Leadership:

  • Support the Retail Technology Manger with the day to day management of the team including but not limited to, work allocation, task prioritisation, skill development

Oracle Database Development:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Oracle Databases using PLSQL and SQL to add new features and maintain and support existing systems with emphasis on performant, robust code.
  • Optimise and tune SQL queries for performance and scalability
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with database best practices
  • Oracle Apex experience

Technical Project Management:

  • Support the technical planning, execution, and delivery of software development projects
  • Work closely with project managers and other business units to define project requirements
  • Translate business requirement into deliverable technical specifications
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, meeting or exceeding quality standards

Application Development:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyse business requirements
  • Collaborate with architects to define technical architectures and solutions
  • Develop scalable and efficient Oracle-based applications, ensuring they meet business requirements and performance standards
  • Implement and maintain data integration processes with other systems

Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices
  • Ensure all new code is fully unit tested, meeting or exceeding quality standards

Technology Support

  • Ensure all incidents based on their severity are resolved within reasonable timescales to minimise business disruption
  • Participate in an on-call rota to ensure all systems are supported outside of normal working hours
  • Collaborate with other team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Project Management, Architecture, Middleware, and IT Operations
  • Effectively communicate project status, issues, and risks to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment
  • Effectively verbally present progress updates to key stakeholders

Documentation:

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including database design and technical specifications

Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in the improvement of development processes, tools, and methodologies
  • Propose and implement enhancements to existing systems to improve performance and maintainability
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, Oracle technologies, and best practices to continuously improve technical expertise

Skills & experience
  • An experienced and technically excellent Senior Oracle Developer, who can clearly communicate and engage business and IT professionals alike, with industry standard software development and 3rd party application development & support experience
  • Proven track record for being:

  • Effective at driving short-term actions that are consistent with long-term goals
  • Experience of application support processes and 3rd party application support management.
  • Proven experience in Senior Developer role or suitable length of experience

Desirable

  • Experience of Application development processes (ideally including MS Azure DevOps).
  • Experience of technical project management
  • Experience of Restful API’s

Required Qualifications, Certificates, Licences and Experience

  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a relevant field
  • 7+ years of Oracle development experience
  • Extensive industry experience or specific software language expert, in lieu of a degree, will be considered
  • Full UK drivers licence desirable
