JobPurpose: As a Senior Pension Officer within the systems team, you will provide support and deputise for the Pension Funds Management Team. You will be responsible for line management of the systems team and developing and maintaining all aspects of the pension administration system (Altair).

You will capture, investigate and resolve system and data issues to ensure that a high-quality service is being provided.

You will identify training needs for your team, monitor workloads and provide feedback to improve individual and team performance and to ensure that all relevant contractual and statutory obligations are being met.

You will provide technical support and guidance to pension system users on all aspects of the LGPS, ensuring compliance with pension legislation at all times.

You will handle complex pension legislation changes and translate this into working practice.

You will have the opportunity to contribute your ideas for improvement and to help shape service delivery.

Requirements

Essential Attributes

  • Significant experience in Pension Administration gained in Local Government.
  • Experience of supervising staff and providing support.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and accept significant levels of responsibility.
  • Excellent IT Skills and experience of using computerised financial systems.
  • Proven experience of working in a team in a busy office environment.

Education and Qualifications

  • IPPM Local Government Pension Management Diploma, or
  • CIPP Foundation Degree in Pension Administration and Management, or a willingness to study towards this or equivalent

Skills/Abilities (Specific to the post)

  • Demonstratable understanding of Local Government pension scheme legislation and guidance.
  • Understanding of pension administration and information systems.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret legislative changes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex pension matters.
  • Experience of planning and co-ordinating workloads and prioritising conflicting demands to ensure deadlines are met.
