Job description

This is an exciting time to join us at the Medical Research Foundation, as we prepare to launch our new five-year strategy to drive the life-changing advances of tomorrow, by laying the foundations for ground-breaking new discoveries today. A key part of this strategy will be a significant investment in our fundraising resources to achieve transformational growth in voluntary income in the next 10 years. To support this growth, we are looking for a Senior Philanthropy Manager to generate income from Trusts and Foundations, Corporate Partnerships and Major Donors.

Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Fundraising, you will lead our philanthropy programme to deliver ambitious income generation plans from a range of income streams. Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead, motivate, manage, and grow a small team.
  • Lead the expansion of the current, low value-high volume small Trusts & Foundations fundraising programme and develop a new high value-low volume programme.
  • Build relationships with other medical charities and patient organisations in order to make joint applications to relevant funders.
  • Establish a Major Donor fundraising programme by identifying individuals with a genuine interest in medical research.
  • Lead an expansion of the Corporate Partnerships programme.
  • Develop relationships with Trustees and other senior stakeholders to encourage them to fundraise amongst their networks.
  • Build and maintain a long-term and sustainable prospect pipeline of high-value supporters.
  • Work with the communications team to develop compelling case for support documents and other donor materials.
  • Monitor and report on progress of applications and relationships, including working to agreed KPIs and ROI.

This is an excellent opportunity to utilise your existing skills and experience gained as a senior fundraising professional, grow professionally and perform a vital role in helping us to achieve our charity’s objectives to improve the future of human health.  We would like to hear from you if you can demonstrate:

  • Significant experience in a senior fundraising role with prior responsibility for at least two of the following: Trusts and Foundations, Corporate Partnerships, or Major Donors.
  • Experience of supporting senior stakeholders to be effective fundraisers.
  • Robust experience of developing and implementing successful strategic fundraising plans.
  • Proven record of personally securing six figure donations from individuals and organisations.
  • Significant experience of identifying, cultivating and building relationships with cold prospects.
  • Experience of leading and motivating high-performing teams to achieve targets.
  • Experience of budgeting processes, managing risk, KPI reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills including an ability to use a CRM system to manage and analyse fundraising data.
  • Effective written communications with a persuasive writing style and experience of talking about science.
  • A good understanding of key regulations.

We will offer you

We will offer a salary of £50,000 for a 36-hour week and will double-match your pension contributions up to a maximum employer contribution of 10%. We would like a full-time employee but are happy to consider a part-time contract (min 0.8 FTE). We offer 30 days of annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata) per year, excellent financial, health and social benefits and an opportunity to join a dedicated team making a difference to human health.
