About the Organisation:

Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. Public Health Scotland wants to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, a Scotland where life expectancy improves and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.

The Post:

The post-holder’s role is to provide strategic engagement and policy support to the organisation to drive forward the delivery of the PHS Strategy and deliver our mission.

Working closely with senior leaders and directors, as well as key external stakeholders, you will independently manage and co-ordinate work of a wide ranging nature. You will collaborate with subject specialists across your directorate to develop effective strategic level briefings which will influence policy change. You will be expected to respond proactively to incoming business, and work at pace in a challenging environment with conflicting demands on your time.

The Candidate:

You will drive forward effective cross-organisational working by maximising opportunities for collaboration and ensuring that strategic links are made between relevant areas of work across the organisation.

You will be able to demonstrate your ability to manage the multiple demands of the post with clarity and skill in order to ensure that results are achieved to a high standard and to time. You will have experience of dealing with a high volume of work with potential risks simultaneously, prioritising competing demands, and negotiating effectively with colleagues across the organisation. You will be skilled in dealing with tricky and sensitive situations, and in managing issues that impact on business critical work of the organisation.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, with extensive relevant experience.

Location and Working Pattern:

Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Central Quay, Glasgow.

Please note that PHS is currently in the process of relocating from Central Quay, Glasgow to Bothwell Street, Glasgow from early 2024.

Currently hybrid working.

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (part time hours may be considered)

During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.
