Senior Policy & Security Officer

This is a non-technical role in the exciting field of cyber awareness and business continuity.

Purpose:
You will be responsible for maintaining and updating technology policies, business processes and procedures that support our work and promote continuous improvement. You will ensure that our business continuity activities are always up to date and scheduled for testing, correlating results, and helping the organisation to plan for outage.

You will work with the wider tech and cyber team experts, to produce high quality guidance and awareness materials on ICT policy and cyber security topics.

You will help our staff to use Technology safely and securely by delivering engaging campaigns and supporting with training events. You will need excellent communication skills to succeed in this role.

You will also provide support to junior members of the team in compliance monitoring and resolving data breaches of ICT policies following our internal resolution processes.

You will be the first point of contact for any escalation issues.

Day to Day:

A typical week in the life of a Senior Policy & Security Officer would be:

To keep abreast of changes in the technical landscape of the authority and how that impacts ICT policy and security protocols. Carry out routine reviews of technology digital content and maintain availability, accuracy, and relevance to ensure the end user experience is positive and promotes self-help.

To carry out routine compliance monitoring of business processes and procedures and the associated policies, using your specialist policy and security knowledge to provide support to ICT users across the organisation.

To prepare reports and provide detailed analysis on various compliance activities, identifying ICT end user behavioural trends so that corrective measures can be developed and aligned to ICT security industry standards and meet accessibility obligations.

Plan and create online guidance and other content for organisational wide campaigns that aligns to the Technology’s Cyber Awareness strategy championing a positive influence in user behaviour and cyber awareness.

Ensure ICT business processes are developed in a way that support the Council’s operational priorities. This includes supporting ICT. Policy and Security experts with the planning, coordinating and maintenance of Technology Business Continuity processes and associated resilience planning and testing documentation.

Technical Skills:

We are looking for a positive and enthusiastic individual who has a flair for technology able to demonstrate:

- an in-depth understanding of ICT policies and how these are applied across a large and disparate organisation.

- Ability to set short term 'business as usual’ priorities for more junior staff and act as an escalation point.

- Ability to review available data, identify cause and effects and apply the best solution from a range of known alternatives.

- strong planning, organisational, prioritisation and negotiation skills to deliver on objectives and meet deadlines.

- the ability to successfully network and influence others to reduce duplication and foster collaboration.

- the ability to communicate effectively using a variety of communication channels is essential.

Knowledge of Microsoft suite (including Teams and Modern SharePoint), video animation and compliance tools are highly desirable.
