We are seeking a motivated Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Experimental and Clinical Sleep Medicine group within the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences and the Sir Jules Thorn Sleep & Circadian Neuroscience Institute (SCNi). We conduct human experimental and clinical studies on sleep and disorders of sleep with the aim of understanding their pathophysiology and treatment. The ideal candidate will be an experienced sleep or circadian scientist with an interest in mental health. They will have significant post-doctoral experience in Sleep and circadian rhythm disruption. The post-holder will carry out research as part of the overall programme, and will also provide day-to-day project management support to the PI, Simon Kyle. The role will provide opportunity for career and skills development and would suit someone who is transitioning towards becoming a principal investigator. The post-holder will have dedicated time to undertake training, develop their skills, and explore career progression, including opportunity to teach through the Oxford Online Programme in Sleep Medicine. Responsibilities include: Independently develop, manage, and ensure the execution of the project plan and timelines for deliverables. Undertake strategic management of the project (oversight of tasks, resources needed and risks to overcome) in order to meet project goals, managing projects pro-actively, anticipating problems and providing resolutions in a timely manner. Develop a thorough working knowledge of research capabilities, activities, and collaborative potential across the project. Liaise with researchers to maintain accurate records of research activity supported by funding, including outputs such as publications, external funding leveraged and intellectual property generated. Make a strategic and scientific contribution to the development of the research programme including coaching other members of the group on specialist methodologies or procedures Generate original ideas and develop testable research questions within the strategic framework of the programme It is essential that the post-holder holds a PhD in neuroscience, psychology, or related area, and have a strong track record in applied sleep and/or circadian science. It is desirable that the post-holder has experience of working in mental health and experience of human experimental medicine or clinical trial intervention studies. This post is full time and fixed term until 29th February 2028. This post is available from March 2024. Only applications received before 12:00 midday on 17th January will be considered.
