Join us on our journey to net zero, and help us power change.

About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to: Glasgow, Perth, London, Belfast or Dublin.

Salary: Up to £68,200 / €96,000 depending on skills and experience + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

Energy Economics, within the Energy Portfolio Management (EPM), acts as the internal economic advisor to the Energy business units of the SSE Group. The Power Modelling team of Energy Economics prepares and delivers long-term scenario-based forecasts of power prices and asset revenues in the Great Britain and island of Ireland (ISEM) power markets. These forecasts are endorsed by SSE's Group Executive Committee for use to support the appraisal of opportunities and the valuation of investments in the UK & Ireland.

This role will support the Power Modelling Manager in the development and maintenance of the PLEXOS models and other modelling tools used to deliver long-term price and revenue forecasts (to 2050) for the GB and ISEM markets, as well as supporting the development of models for additional markets as SSE expands its operations internationally. The role will involve working with the wider Energy Economics team, as well as colleagues across the wider business units to ensure that our modelling meets the needs of our internal customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Supporting the development and maintenance of Energy Economics' long-term power market modelling.

- Work closely with Energy Economics colleagues to provide the commercial analytical support required to underpin long-term investment decisions, asset valuations and other strategic decision-making. Ensure that delivery of service meets their needs; incorporate feedback into the development of the product.

- Develop, operate, and maintain long-term fundamental models for a range of power markets and purposes.

- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure modelling approaches and assumptions are up-to-date and appropriate.

- Support junior colleagues in the modelling team in developing their skills. Promote and explain our modelling to wider business colleagues.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Expert level capability in modelling wholesale power markets and power systems using PLEXOS or similar software, and revenue modelling of power generation projects. Consideration will be given to a similar level of demonstrably transferrable experience.

- Detailed knowledge of electricity markets (GB, ISEM or similar), or able to demonstrate the applicability of your knowledge of a relevant sector.

- Good business acumen and commercial awareness; able to focus on the commercial implications of insights obtained through modelling.

- Self-motivated and organized, able to take ownership of the delivery of work and demonstrate consistent achievement of objectives.

- Experience in the use of Python, or load flow analysis tools such as PSSE would be strongly beneficial.

What's in it for you?

We offer an excellent package with 34 days annual leave entitlement. Enhanced maternity/paternity leave, discounted healthcare, salary sacrifice car leasing and much more, view our full benefits package on our careers site.
