Job description

Role Responsibility

Are you passionate about Occupational Therapy?  Do you want to develop your leadership skills and support the Occupational Therapy workforce to be the best it can be?

If the answer is yes, we have the role for you!
An opportunity has arisen for a Full Time Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist (37 hours per week) to lead the West Kent South OT Team. It is an exciting time to join us as the OT Service has recently moved into the Enablement and Support function of Adult Social Care. This brings a greater focus on OT to support people by preventing, delaying and reducing needs, as well as building closer partnership working relationships with our Health and Housing colleagues to ensure people get the “right service at the right time”.  Our OT's use a creative and diverse toolkit to enable people to find solutions to achieve their goals, including activity analysis, specialist equipment, minor and major adaptations, technology, moving and handling, enablement and teaching skills and techniques.

We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and confident person who is experienced in working in a fast-paced environment.  You will play a key role in the day-to-day supervision and oversight of a large Occupational Therapy team, comprising of OT's, OT Assessment Officers and OT Apprentices. Therefore, the successful candidate will have wide-ranging post qualifying experience across health and / or social care, as well as the ability to manage complex casework and experience of major adaptations and specialist equipment. With oversight of the West Kent Operational OT Manager, you will be responsible for the team’s workload and performance and should therefore possess sound risk management and clinical decision-making skills. Experience of supervising and developing both qualified and unqualified staff is essential, as is your ability to communicate effectively, negotiate and work in partnership with others to ensure good outcomes.

This role can be worked in a hybrid environment; however, the expectation is that you will work within the office for part of the week to support your team and be available for community visits should your staff require your input.

Our offer to you

  • Starting salary of £43,216
  • Recruitment payment of £3000 (subject to eligibility)
  • Full induction and comprehensive professional learning and development programme
  • Starting annual leave allowance of 29 days
  • A minimum of 5 days’ training each year
  • Excellent Government pension scheme

In addition to Kent County Council’s staff package, you will become part of a welcoming and innovative team. We are committed to offering you a personalised development plan and within the OT Service there are opportunities to progress your career pathway. We provide outstanding training to enable you to maximise both your clinical and leadership skills. You will be line managed and receive formal supervision from the OT Team Manager, as well as peer support from your friendly and supportive Senior Practitioner OT colleagues.

Adult Social Care and Health operates with modernised office processes and performance management systems. The service is also increasingly accessible to the public outside of traditional office hours, as we move towards an 8 am to 8 pm, seven days a week service. OPPD staff and managers are increasingly working on a rota basis to ensure service needs are met.

This post holder is responsible for ensuring that all Safeguarding Policies are adhered to and concerns are raised in accordance with these.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring service and registration as a qualified Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
