At FDF, we're addressing some of the biggest issues in the UK like food security, health and obesity, economic growth, sustainability and trade.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the Head of Media Relations to ensure the FDF’s position is well represented to the media.
- Develop stories that can be proactively pitched to media that promote leadership, policy expertise and membership.
- Support the Head of Media Relations with the running of the 24-hour on-call FDF press office.
- Build constructive and strategic relationships with trade, local and national journalists.
- Develop press releases, position statements and media responses, as well as creating content for use on the FDF website.
- Support colleagues ahead of media appearances, podcasts, briefings and roundtables and provide advice for members and committees on media issues.
- Ensure databases, licenses, contacts lists, and monitoring processes are kept up to date and meet the organisation’s need.
- Collaborate and encourage contributions from members and stakeholders to build a consensus and influence outcomes.
- Keep abreast of the news agenda by monitoring the media including social.
- Deputise for the Head of Media Relations in their absence and chair meetings with relevant teams.

- To provide advice for FDF policy colleagues and members on media issues of concern.
- To develop an in depth understanding of FDF and its policy issues.
Requirements
- A degree or equivalent experience in journalism, communications, or PR.
- Significant experience of working in a front-line media role in either an agency or in-house position
- Can evidence proactively generating stories that result in media coverage
- Experience of creating multi-platform campaigns preferably related to public policy
- Experience of managing challenging portfolio areas and contentious issues
- High level of personal credibility and gravitas
- Operates at pace
- First class communications skills – verbal and written
- Self-motivated, result driven and proactive
- High emotional intelligence and awareness
- Analytical, able to effectively interpret data and make informed recommendations
- Maintain sound judgment when working under pressure and maintaining a true sense of urgency
- Able to collaborate and build relationships with a range of stakeholders to build a consensus and influence outcomes.
