Due to the hybrid nature of the teams, we require the successful candidate to be based in one of the above BBC offices to work from the office one / two days per week

Job Purpose
We are looking for a Senior Product Data Manager to join the BBC's newly formed Product Data Domain teams. Our vision is to drive towards treating Data as a Product within the digital parts of the BBC to innovate and maintain driving data-driven decision at scale.
As a Senior Product Data Manager, you will be responsible for the strategy and roadmap for your suite of data products. On a day-to-day basis, you'll be working with key business stakeholders to understand their data requirements and ensure alignment across our data products suite. You will play a pivotal part in defining how we collect, manage, and use data to ensure key data and metrics are delivered to the BBC's product development teams.
Key to this role is being able to articulate the business impact and high impact use cases and help lead cross-functional teams to realise the business impact. You will be expected to work across multiple parts of the BBC's digital product suite.
There is no one size fits all to your background. You might have work in data product management, product management, or worked in Product Ops functions. What we are looking for is someone who has delivered strategy and roadmaps for products at scale, and with a deep expertise in analytical data.
Meet the Product Data Team
We are Product Data team, sitting inside the BBC's digital and online products area called Product Group. Our digital products include some of the UK's most popular online services such as BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds, BBC News and BBC Bitesize.
Currently, we have 3 broad domains - Product Growth, Users and Content. We are looking for people who have expertise in any of these areas, who are passionate about enabling data driven decision making at scale by shaping how we track and model this data for consumption.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
You will:

  • Establish courses of action using cost/benefit analysis and similar evaluation techniques.
  • Be the team expert in a data domain and communicate regularly with technical, operational, editorial and product staff.
  • Set clear KPIs and metrics to measure data product success and drive data-driven decision making
  • Establish roadmaps including strategic priorities for developing data capabilities for your product area
  • Collaborate with other teams across the BBC on strategic and division level projects and initiatives
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and align the delivery and output of the team with those needs
  • Develop and extend data models, taxonomies, vocabularies and other data structures.
  • Support the design and development of databases and data infrastructure alongside architecture.
  • Oversee the entire data product lifecycle, from ideation and development to launch and post-launch optimisation
  • Work with technical teams in the organisation to define, document and distribute best practice and standards
  • Develop and maintain data standards, including adherence to the data management, information security and privacy policies.
  • Define the management of user access, control permissions, privileges and provide on-going assistance for the data products you are responsible for
  • Ensure the creation and maintenance of data related documentation, including data definitions, lineage maps and rules.

  • Some experience of managing complex data or algorithmic products at scale
  • Technical or data focused background or experience of working in highly technical products
  • Ability to think strategically and able to understand how data can be used to deliver improved business decision making and drive product development
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Strong experience of leading cross-functional teams to deliver clear business outcomes
  • Some experience of creating strategy for technical or data products
