Job description

We have exciting and ambitious plans for the future of our Food & Beverage proposition at the National Trust. We’re creating new food offers that appeal to our 26 million visitors each year and improving the environments we serve food in. To get there, we’re focusing on product development and procurement, but also investing in areas such as marketing, operating standards, and environmental practice. 

Please note this role is based in our Head Office in Swindon and appointed candidates will need to base themselves from here 2/3 days per week. 

Salary: £53,313 per annum

Duration: This is a permanent role which offers realistic salary progression based on annual reviews.

Interview dates: Week-commencing 26th February 

What it's like to work here

Based at our head office in Swindon you’ll lead a team of product development managers, chefs and co-ordinators alongside our experience team which includes marketing and communications. For much of the week, you’ll be leading members of your team at our national office in Swindon, but you’ll also be expected to travel to National Trust places regularly, to engage with, and learn from local teams and regional colleagues.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Head of Commercial Proposition and as the lead for Food & Beverage product, you’ll be accountable for setting the strategic direction of our food offer and bringing it to life through marketing and communications across 350+ sites which impacts on more than 3,000 Food & Beverage staff.  

You’ll lead your team to create, test and launch menus and recipes that meet our audiences needs and are congruent with the National Trust whilst growing revenue profitability.  

This is a role where partnerships are key, working closely with the Heads of Operational Delivery in Food & Beverage, Area Managers, our Training teams and other key stakeholders, you’ll use their input to ensure that the menus your team create are delicious, deliverable, and meet visitors' needs.  You and your team will work in collaboration with operational teams, immersing yourselves with property kitchen teams to understand how we can continually improve and grow our offer. 

You’ll also work with our internal Marketing and Communications team to design and deliver a marketing plan that aligns to the organisation’s priorities, whilst shifting perceptions and building awareness of our food and drink propositions. 

You won’t be afraid to test new concepts and you’ll be able to define clear measures of success and implementation plans. You and your team will learn from experience and adapt quickly to delight visitors, shift perceptions of the Trust’s food and drink offers and align our food and drink to the broader organisation’s strategic ambitions. 

Who we're looking for

  • Experience as a senior leader, leading a team in a multi-site food and beverage operation.
  • Proven experience of creating proposition frameworks (considering product, price and place) that meet audiences needs across multiple sites.
  • A good understanding of customer expectations and trends within the UK food industry.
  • Excellent analytical and performance reporting skills and a working knowledge of P&L and managing margin.
  • Ability to build highly effective and collaborative working relationships; excellent communication and team-working skills.
