Key Responsibilities
Project management
Project management of operational improvement projects. Engage multidisciplinary teams, determine and define project scope, objectives, identify and manage resources in an effective and efficient manner. Develop and manage detailed project schedules, providing consistent updates to stakeholders. Utilise industry best practices and standards throughout entire project execution. Evaluate project outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
Leadership & Mentoring
Provide a source of Technical Engineering Leadership to the business in general and specifically for the Production Engineering Team. Be a Technical Mentor to the Production Engineers and Apprentices.
LEAN
Identify business improvement opportunities within the organisation and use appropriate LEAN tools where applicable, including root cause analysis. Promote best practice and support the development of a LEAN culture within the business.
Factory support
Support operations with solving problems that affect production delays to help ensure delivery on time to the customer.
Process Capability
Identify methods for assessing the capabilities of processes and utilising this data to support production and new product development.
Documentation and Systems
Develop and maintain required controlled processes documentation and business systems, always focused on improvement of documentation and systems including the identification of opportunities for digitalisation. Develop and maintain written and video SOPs as required within operations.
Communication
Report and escalate any concerns / Production issue etc. to senior management when needed. Communicate frequent top-level status on the progress of major production problem solutions to senior management.
Risk based Control and Improvement Methods
Support the development of a risk-based approach to product and business improvement utilising PFMEA where applicable
Risk Assessments
Conduct manufacturing safety risk assessments for any new equipment, assembly aides or processes introduced, ensuring any identified risks are appropriately designed out or addressed by documented safe system of work SSoW.
KPIs
Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) ensure they are met.
Specific Skill Requirements
Education / Technical Skills
Engineering Qualification
Experience in production or manufacturing engineering in a quality-critical environment (5+ years).
Experience in effective project management – completion of project life cycle.
Critical thinking ability to evaluate product and process designs and propose improvements.
Experience in lean/ continuous improvement principles; 5S, FMEA, VSM, Process flow, A3 Problem solving etc.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
IT skills, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Microsoft project.
Knowledge and understanding of SAP.
Experience in an automotive or electrical mechanical manufacturing environment.
Proficient in use of CAD packages; Solidworks, SolidEdge, AutoCAD.
Experienced in performing time studies and ideally certified by the Institute of Management Services (IMS).
Programming knowledge and understanding of C, C++, or VBA.
