Job description

Summary
Are you well-organised with a passion for nature, communities, and heritage?  Come and join our brilliant team.

We’re looking for a Senior Project Coordinator to support Changing Chalk, an ambitious multi-million-pound partnership project led by the National Trust and funded in part by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Working with local communities and focussing on the fragile chalk grassland landscape of the eastern South Downs, Changing Chalk is restoring lost habitats, bringing diverse histories to life, and breaking down complex barriers to participation in the outdoors. For more information about Changing Chalk, please follow this link: Changing Chalk | Sussex | National Trust

Reporting to the Changing Chalk Programme Manager, you’ll support the smooth running of the Changing Chalk partnership and programme.

This is a fixed term contract to July 2025 (with possible extension subject to funding).

30 hours per week (0.8 FTE).

Interview date: 16 February 2024.

Please provide a cover letter as part of your application.

What it's like to work here
The National Trust was founded to look after beautiful and historic places for the whole nation: for everyone, for ever. Our ambition is that no matter who you are or where you come from, our places are accessible and welcoming, and people feel able to participate in places that matter to them. Changing Chalk is a key part of achieving this ambition in the eastern South Downs and neighbouring communities.

You’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary project team which sits in the regional consultancy, as well as the wider Changing Chalk Partnership.  We’re half way through a 4-year delivery phase of Changing Chalk so it’s an exciting time to join us, with lots going on.

The role is based at Saddlescombe Farm near Brighton.  There will be opportunity to explore hybrid working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the team but working from the office is expected at least some of the time. The office is in a rural location so access to transport is needed. Occasional travel to other locations in the project area will also be required.

What you'll be doing
You’ll provide a high-quality professional project support service to the Programme Manager, Project Board and Partnership Delivery Group. You’ll assist in the preparation of quarterly progress reports and financial claims, helping to coordinate and collate partner progress reports and claims.

Providing project administration to the Programme Manager and Changing Chalk project team in areas such as purchasing, events and partner communications will be part of the day-to-day role. A key responsibility will be maintaining systems, procedures, and record-keeping for the effective and compliant running of the project office and partnership.

You’ll also support the administration of the Changing Chalk Community Grants Scheme, learning how the Scheme works and working to improve the process for applicants and grantees.

Who we're looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Excellent organisational and project coordination skills.
  • Great attention to detail and IT skills; good working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Excel.
  • Some previous experience of providing project/programme support and a practical understanding of project processes (e.g. procurement, finance, reporting).
  • Ability to collate, analyse and prepare data (including financial) for reporting purposes.
  • Experience of working with external stakeholders and/or partners or funders.
  • Ability to work well in a team as well as independently and communicate effectively on all levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities and deadlines

Please also read the full role profile attached to this advert.  You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what is possible in this role.
