Senior Project Manager – Flight Operations

 

Contract Type: 12-18 Month FTC /  £49,007 to £65,343

Security Level Required: BPSS

The Role:

 

Flight Operations (FO) is a capability team within the Safety and Airspace Regulation Group (SARG) responsible for the regulation and oversight of UK approved public transport and police operators. The Flight Operations team are focused on creating a proportionate regulatory framework in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, promoting safety and contributing towards a vibrant aviation industry.

 

This role, which is a vital part of the Flight Operations team for Dangerous Goods and Ground Handling, will be leading projects relating to the risk posed by undeclared or counterfeit lithium batteries as carried as air cargo, and assisting in the development of the UK’s mitigation measures to manage this risk to aviation.

 

Core Accountabilities:

 

  • Leading complex projects, ensuring the deliverables, timescales, cost, and quality measures are met.
  • Developing project plans and project initiation that includes definition of scope, background, success criteria, timelines, requirements, milestones and deliverables, risks, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Full project governance and progress reporting, covering risk, issue, dependency management, impact assessment and focus on business delivery and outcomes.
  • Financial management of project budgets, as required.
  • Overseeing the production of impact assessments for proposed risk mitigation measures, by third parties.
  • Manage procurement for research projects, including tender creation, pre-qualification questionnaire, and tender evaluation.
  • Develop projected costings of research.
  • Line management of one Business Analyst.

 

 

 

About You:

 

You will have strong decision-making skills and be comfortable in making informed recommendations, which are evidence based and technical in nature, to Senior Stakeholders.

 

Essential Skills:

 

  • Experienced in Waterfall or Agile project methodologies, ideally with a formal project Management (PM) qualification such as Prince 2 and/or Advanced project Management (APM).
  • Previous experience of working collaboratively on challenging projects.
  • Confident and proven ability to present and provide evidence-based proposals for consideration by senior stakeholders.
  • Established and confident in communicating and engaging with all levels of Stakeholders to Director level and associated Ministerial and leading industry subject matter experts.

 

Desirable:

  • Established manager of people, capable of creating and developing a collaborative workforce, along with ensuring continual support, coaching, and mentoring to ensure personal growth personally and to the wider team.
  • Procurement and tendering experience would be highly desirable.
