THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 13 MONTHS UNTIL 31-Jul-2025 DUE TO FUNDING.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN APPLYING FOR THE SECONDMENT POSITION, YOU MUST OBTAIN PERMISSION FROM YOUR CURRENT LINE MANAGER PRIOR TO APPLYING FOR THIS POST.
If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application.
This is a Senior Public Health Practitioner role within the Hywel Dda Public Health Team. The team supports the University Health Board and its partners across the counties of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire. Location to be determined at interview.
The population profile of the area has an impact on the breadth and complexity of the work undertaken by the team as outlined in the strategic and operational priorities of the Director of Public Health.
The post holder will contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of a range of Public Health programmes that promote health and wellbeing across sectors in line with agreed local and national strategies: this includes the IMTPs of Hywel Dda University Health Board and Public Health Wales .
The role involves working with specific target groups in a range of settings, in partnership with local communities and partner organisations. The post holder will provide specialist advice and support on the development of Public Health/health promotion programmes and support community health development approaches and initiatives to address health inequalities.
The delivery model within the team takes a whole life course approach to improve the health of the population of the Hywel Dda area. Specifically, the post holder will take a lead role on projects or programmes within the annual work plan; current priorities include social and green solutions for health, obesity and immunisations and vaccinations.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (six of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
You will be able to find a full job description and person specification attached within the supporting documents.
The Health Board is committed to supporting its staff to fully embrace the need for bilingualism thereby enhancing patient and service user experiences. In our commitment to increase the number of staff who are able to communicate in Welsh with patients and professionals, we welcome applications from Welsh speakers.
The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post. If you do not meet the Welsh Language requirements specified, the Health Board offers a variety of learning options and staff support to help you meet these minimal desirable requirements during the course of your employment with us.
