Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Hemel Hempstead (HP2 7BE), with travel to London-based sites

Salary range: Competitive pay, package negotiable dependent on experience

Role type: Permanent, full time

We're on the lookout for an experienced, commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee the commercial aspects of our kitchen and bathroom refurbishment projects.

As a key player in our team, you'll be responsible for driving our gross profit margins for allocated projects, whilst making recommendations on how we can extract more value from existing workstreams. You will also effectively build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and the operational team, and ensure successful project delivery in line with budgeted materials and labour costs. 

This key role calls for someone with a sharp business sense, strong commercial awareness and a knack for problem-solving. The ideal candidate is someone who can not only navigate the complexities of commercial operations but can also inspire and guide others towards shared success.

Main Objectives of the Senior Quantity Surveyor role:

• conduct monthly Cost Value Reconciliation meetings
• monitor financial aspects of contracts, forecast costs accurately and maximise cash flow
• oversee surveyors' responsibilities for interim valuations and final accounts
• develop and maintain relationships with clients and subcontractors
• ensure timely invoicing and payment of monthly valuations
• set target profitability margins for assigned projects and ensure consistent delivery
• attend site meetings and provide advice on contractual matters to the management team
• facilitate subcontract enquiries and assess subcontract quotations
• negotiate subcontract packages to ensure effective delivery on time, in budget
• manage claims and disputes in a timely manner, communicating potential risks to the Divisional Manager
• lead team performance reviews and provide coaching and support as required
• allocate surveying resources effectively and promote best practices within the team

Do you have what it takes?

• qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related field
• professional RICS membership or another appropriate body
• strong data interrogation skills
• demonstrated ability to influence at all levels
• knowledge of bidding processes and commercial contractual matters
• previous experience in a senior commercial role
• valid driving license
