Senior Quantity Surveyor, Glasgow (with occasional Travel to London) Permanent
From feasibility studies, planning and design through to implementation and asset management, our client provides multi-disciplinary rail infrastructure services across the lifecycle of rail assets. Their expertise covers electrification, track, power, civils, specialist rail plant, railway systems and technologies.
Role Purpose:
A Senior Quantity Surveyor is an experienced QS who has a track record in managing all costs relating to rail and civil engineering projects
They seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality;
Typically, they will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB. They will have experience of managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff as well as mentoring others on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor you will:
Prepare activity schedules, resource schedules & analyses tender documents
Critically appraise, estimate and negotiate the above with 3rd parties
Review weekly, monthly, section programmes of works
Monitor subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately
Analyses the commercial progress and report to senior project staff
Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation
Manages HR/People aspects for direct and indirect reports (PDRs etc);
Actively supports the development of others including professional mentoring
Who we're looking for
You will have the following:
BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
Previous experience at senior level of managing project commercial performance, and a track record of delivering commercial excellence
Experience of financial and commercial control within a complex project
Experience of managing audit on Target Cost Contracts
Experience of managing commercial teams, ensuring an inclusive culture is achieved
Experience in the recruitment and retention of staff, including interviewing for staff
Identifies & targets the needs of individuals & self
Manages team's Performance Development Reviews, associated training including professional requirements, and succession planning opportunities
Member of RICS or ICES or working towards this accreditation

Proven record of working to deadlines, working efficiently and to a high standard
Experience of infrastructure projects with resilience and determination to succeed
